Russia confirms humiliated Assad has fled Syria after rebels liberated Damascus, as Israel 'strikes military sites across the country': Live Updates

Russia has today confirmed that humiliated dictator Bashar al-Assad has fled his country, after rebels took over the country in just 11 days.

Russia's deputy defence minister Alexander Fomin said today that the murderous former leader had left the country, but did not indicate where he was.
Residents of the capital city have reported sounds of gunfire and explosions in the early hours of Sunday morning local time, as the insurgents started swarming the capital.

Despite the major victory against the murderous dictator, rebels said today that they were attacking Kurdish forces in the north of Syria.

On Saturday evening local time, opposition forces took the central city of Homs, Syria's third largest, as government forces abandoned it.
The city stands at an important intersection between Damascus, the capital, and Syria's coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus - the Syrian leader´s base of support and home to a Russian strategic naval base.

The rebels had already seized the cities of Aleppo and Hama, as well as large parts of the south in a lightning offensive that began on November 27.

Assad's office said earlier on Saturday that the President was staying put in the capital and continuing his duties, but the president has since fled the country to exile, ending his regime.

So now what, as Syria will de-evolve into another Islamist Ethno-State and Muslim on Muslim Sectarian Violence like Libya

Yeah Assad was NOT a good guy, but do you really expect the lives of ' the Syrian People ' to Improve

Syrian dictator Bashar Assad flees into exile as Islamist rebels conquer country

A video statement from a group of men on Syrian state TV said that Assad had been overthrown and all prisoners have been set free.

The man who read a statement said the Operations Room to Conquer Damascus is calling on all opposition fighters and citizens to preserve state institutions of "the free Syrian state."

"Long live the free Syrian state that is to all Syrians and all" their sects and ethnic groups, they said.

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali said early Sunday he didn't know the whereabouts of Assad. He told the Saudi television network Al-Arabiyya that they lost communication Saturday night.

Crowds of Syrians gathered in the central squares of Damascus to celebrate. Some chanted anti-Assad slogans and honked horns. In other areas, celebratory gunshots rang out.

Syria has been embroiled in a bloody, nearly 14-year civil war as Islamist rebels looked to overthrow the Assad dynasty. The apparent collapse of more than 50 years of Assad family rule over the Syrian Arabian Republic is a monumental turning point in Middle East power politics.

Power with Control
Unconfirmed stuff on X is saying a few different things.

1. Assads aircraft was shot down by a Russian missile system.
2. His aircraft developed troubles and made an emergency landing somewhere.

Now, last time we had chaos there some folks thought the US forces there made a good target. Hope they dont make the same mistake this time.

The end of Assad’s rule deals a major blow to Iran and its allies, already weakened by over a year of conflict with Israel. The rebels now face the daunting task of healing bitter divides in a country ravaged by war and still split among different armed factions. Turkey-backed opposition fighters are battling U.S.-allied Kurdish forces in the north, and the Islamic State group is still active in some remote areas.

Syrian state television aired a video statement early Sunday by a group of rebels saying that Assad had been overthrown and all prisoners had been set free. The man who read the statement called on rebel fighters and citizens to preserve the institutions of “the free Syrian state.”

Rebel commander Anas Salkhadi, who appeared on the channel later in the day, sought to reassure Syria’s religious and ethnic minorities, saying: “Syria is for everyone, no exceptions. Syria is for Druze, Sunnis, Alawites, and all sects.”

[ Yeah that will last about a minuet until the Islamists get spun up and start murdering Apostates / Kafiers ]

“We will not deal with people the way the Assad family did,” he added.

Calls for an orderly transition as it remains unclear what comes next

The rebel advances since Nov. 27 were the largest in recent years, and saw the cities of Aleppo, Hama and Homs fall in a matter of days as the Syrian army melted away. Russia, Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group, which provided crucial support to Assad throughout the uprising, abandoned him in the final days as they reeled from other conflicts.

The rebels are led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, or HTS, which has its origins in al-Qaida and is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the United Nations.

Its leader, al-Golani, has sought to remake the group’s image and says he is committed to a Syria that will serve all its citizens, including sizable religious and ethnic minorities.. HTS set up a “salvation government” in 2017 to administer a large region in northwestern Syria under its control.

“Golani has made history and sparked hope among millions of Syrians,” said Dareen Khalifa, a senior adviser with the International Crisis Group and an expert on Syrian groups. “But he and the rebels now face a formidable challenge ahead. One can only hope they rise to the occasion.”

The U.N.’s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, called Saturday for urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an “orderly political transition.”

The Gulf nation of Qatar, a key regional mediator, hosted an emergency meeting of foreign ministers and top officials from eight countries with interests in Syria late Saturday. The participants included Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Turkey.

Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, told reporters that they agreed on the need “to engage all parties on the ground,” including the HTS, and that the main concern is “stability and safe transition.”

50 years of a family dictatorship. 14 years of civil war. And it all comes crashing down roughly a month before Trump begins his 2nd run as president. Why do I get the feeling that if Trump lost, it would be the status quo in Syria?

The nations that met in Doha, should be the ONLY countries to take muslim refugees. Birds of a feather y'all.

All Syrian refugees in the US should be quickly repatriated.

For your consideration ...

Oh look. Another coup orchestrated by the US deep state in support of Israel. They've been advertising it for a awhile now.

Right after revolutions happen, there's typically civil war - and not all revolutions result in a better, freer life for the citizens.
Sometimes, someone just as bad emerges.

Agree with Trump - let's stay out until the dust settles. We might find ourselves facing more Assads.

This was a Religious / Secular Civil War ....

Started with the Arab Spring one MIGHT call a Revolution, but was PUSHED Heavily by the Muslim Brotherhood [ banned in a lot places btw ] a Fundamentalist Sunni Group

But has been a Sectarian Civil War -

Assad - supported by Iran and proxy Hezbollah and Russia
Rebels - Sunni fighters - the winning leader has committed numerous human rights atrocities against Christians, Shi'as

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has committed mass human atrocities and was co-founded by the former leader of ISIS as the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda.

Turkey has supported Rebel Factions as well as conducting raids and strikes against Pro Kurdish Factions in Syria and wants to send back 100's of refugees that fled to Turkey in the past 12 yrs

Clipped from a news article:

A main concern of Turkey is the presence in northern Syria of the YPG militia, which it regards as a terrorist group, closely tied with militants in Turkey who have fought a 40-year insurgency against the Turkish state.

It has allowed Turkey, through its Syrian proxy the Syrian National Army, to push back against Kurdish forces in Syria allied to its sworn enemy, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK.

The jihadi group that spearheaded the 10-day march on Damascus, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, is listed as a terrorist organization by Ankara. However, Turkey has operated alongside it for years in northern Syria and is believed to exert significant influence over the group.

Here’s a look at Turkey’s position, how Assad’s removal could serve the country’s objectives and possible risks ahead:

Ties with Syria

Turkey has stated its support for Syria’s territorial integrity: the last thing it wants is a Kurdish-controlled autonomous region on its border or a fresh exodus of refugees created by instability.

Israel is hitting all the air bases and ammo depots ... I'm assuming to keep jet fighters and advanced weapons out of the hands of Jihadists

Assad has arrived in Russia

If HTS tries to liberate the ISIS fighters being held in eastern Syria, currently being guarded by Kurdish troops, we will be drawn in.
