Family dog drags infant from home

Someone brought two Native American Indian Dogs into the store a couple of months ago. They were HUGE!
Hope the baby is ok; it would be a shame if they destroy it, though. It doesn't sound as though the dog was trying to hurt the baby.

I thought owning any type of dog with "wolf" in it was illegal? Maybe it's different in each state. My husband was the one who told me about it because he knows I like dogs that "look" like wolves. I was seriously thinking of getting a Tamaskan that looks like one but the price tag was WAY too steep for us.

Yep, you can pretty much guarantee this dog is history on this planet. Our Malamute did a similar thing with our youngest son. She picked him up by his arm and carried him around the backyard like he was her puppy. Luckily, my son was 4 and she let him go when I yelled at her. Freaked my son out big time!! She also didn't break the skin either.

I think the real problem here is the parents letting a dog have access to such a small child. How could brand new parents be so neglectful? Any parents for that matter!

I was really hoping when I opened this thread it was going to be something more along the lines of "Lassy pulls infant from burning home." Of course not. Thanks for brightening my day.

I don't think this breed is a hybrid, I just think they're very closely related to wolves. You know, I always wonder why people try to make dogs like these family pets (same goes for hybrids). My mom knew a lady who had a wolf hybrid, and she actually was surprised when the dog pinned her small son down by his neck. Some dogs are not family dogs.

It's a Maryland law, but it's also used in many other states. You cannot have any wild animal as a pet, or any animal with (I think) 50% or more wild animal in them, like the F1 Savannah cats. You have to have a special license, which is near impossible to get unless you have some sort of zoo or large-scale/specialized rescue center.

Oh, EDIT: Unless you owned the animal before the law went into effect, in which case you're grandfathered or something. I actually read this somewhere here on somd.com, not sure where I stumbled across it, though.

I was really hoping the same thing. How sad for these parents, my prayers go out to them.

:yeahthat: We did alot of research on Malamutes before we got ours. We ended up with a Dalmatian who had been passed around my husband's family before he ended up with us. Although he wouldn't dare hurt our kids, he would be aggressive towards my husband. The dog thought I was the leader and was very attached to me. Hence why he knew better than to try anything with our son.

Completely different situation with our Malamute. She is a love bug and has such an easy-going temperment.
