Just followed a truck from Park Hall to above Leonardtown. Farm tags on that like-new Ford pickup, pulling an empty jet ski trailer with Maine tags.

Way to save money.

Well, if the owner has an active farm (at least 3 acres or 25 bee hives) and is within a 25 mile radius of the farm that seems legit. Not sure the relevance of a trailer with Maine tags.

It's like how people used to register a boat in Delaware regardless of where they lived. Low registration and tax rates.
DNR used to have a "flying squad" whose only mission was to identify and track down scofflaws that were keeping their boats in MD waters, but using outside registration to save money on taxes and fees paid to MD. Don't know if they still do...

Some years ago, I knew one of the guys on that squad. He had some pretty good stories about the lengths some yacht owners went to avoid being caught and forced to pay up.

Guess the question would be are they maryland residents with a farm presumably within 25 miles of this truck? If so, why are they registering their trailers in other states? If they are Maine residents, why the Maryland farm tag.

The answer is pretty obvious, the person lied/cheated for the trailer tag. If someone is willing to do this for a trailer, they may also be willing to do it for the truck which may or may not be used for farming at all.

If they're lying/cheating on their trailer tags, they have a LOT of company, because many many people run Maine tags in MD. You would think that as money hungry as the MD MVA is, they would be cracking down on this if it weren't legal. It's easier to register a trailer with Maine tags in MD, than it is to do it legally here.

Who said it was their trailer? Might be they helped someone by hauling their trailer and don't own it. Hell, maybe they snagged it at a boat ramp parking area and were stealing it.

As to obvious, it is that I don't know the guy, never have seen his truck.trailer, or tags, I just remembered that it was allowed. Don't even know if he lives around Leonardtown, he could be from down south and he was still in the 25 mile range.

So Great Kreskin, tell me what you factually know about the situation.
