Fat Cat!

Hey everyone. I have a fat cat, Shade, and she needs to lose some weight. She has always been a big girl but recently it seems to have started to effect her breathing. Every so often she just sits there and hacks. It's not a hairball and after about 30 seconds or so, she's done. Happens maybe once a day. Vet says that it is just because she is overweight. Blood work is fine and she doesn't have worms.

I have tried to do scheduled feedings but Shade will just inhale the food and then puke it back up in under 30 minutes. From what comes up, it doesn't even look like she chews the food.

I have a small size house. It's one story and under 1000 square feet so I really can't make her do stairs or anything like that to burn the calories.

She doesn't play at all. Ignores toys and the other cat. I have tried to walk her in the house and she just goes limp/dead weight on me. She doesn't get treats or wet food.

Any suggestions?

Get her on a grain free food. Evo, Wellness Core or something like that. Less dry and more canned also.

Has the vet checked/x-rayed her chest and checked her heart?

Give her a little bit at a time until she's done eating. Maybe that will help her digest some food.

You need to be careful with how fast she loses any weight, no matter what you decide to do to help her lose weight. A cat's kidneys can not handle processing fats too quickly. Good luck.

Our store kitty is a tub. Like me, she gets little exercise. She actually does not eat a lot of food. Dr Terry told me to give her wet food to make her lose weight. It is more filling and they will eat less calories. The problem is Shy-anne does not like any wet foods- and I have tried many.
She also told me cats that are on dry kibble only, have more kidney problems than cats that are on a combination of wet and dry. They need the moisture from canned food.
