(Upper Marlboro, MD.) – Maryland State Police are investigating a collision in which one person died yesterday evening in Prince George’s County.
The victim is identified as Ramon Matinez, 59, of Bowie, MD. He was driving a black Chevy Trailblazer. Emergency personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The driver of the gray Mercedes SUV is identified as Ingrid Turner, 55, of Oxon Hill, MD. Turner was transported by ambulance to University of Maryland Bowie Health Center for injuries she sustained from the crash.
The driver of the gray Jeep Cherokee is identified as Jacqueline Zachry, 49, of North Beach, MD. Zachry was transported by ambulance to Anne Arundel Medical Center for injuries she sustained from the crash.
Just before 7:00 p.m. yesterday evening, Maryland State Police received calls from motorists, reporting a crash involving a black Chevy Trailblazer, gray Mercedes SUV and a gray Jeep Cherokee northbound on Crain Highway at Old Central Avenue in Upper Marlboro, MD. Troopers from Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack were immediately dispatched to the location.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Martinez was traveling eastbound on Old Central Avenue at Crain Highway. Turner was traveling northbound on Crain Highway, in lane one. For unknown reasons at this time, Martinez failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and drove directly into the travel path of Turner. Turner struck the passenger side of Martinez’s vehicle. As a result, both vehicles became disabled in lanes one and two. In the event of the collision Zachry struck the passenger side of Martinez’s disabled vehicle.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded and will be conducting a detailed crash reconstruction. EMS personnel responded along with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration responded to assist with the lane closure. Due to the incident, the roadway was closed for approximately four hours.
