(Rising Sun, MD) On Saturday, February 29, 2020 just before 11:15 AM, troopers from the North East Barrack responded to the 1100 block of MD 276 (Joseph Biggs Highway) in Rising Sun for a report of a single vehicle crash. Upon their arrival, troopers discovered a beige Ford F-350 had struck a tree in the front yard of a residence. The driver of the Ford was identified as James Shephard, 68 years old of Conowingo, and the sole passenger was identified as Margaret Shephard, 67 years old also of Conowingo. James and Margaret Shephard were transported to Christiana Hospital in Delaware for treatment of their injuries. Mr. James Shephard was pronounced deceased by doctors at Christiana Hospital late Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Shephard remains under the care of Christiana Hospital.
The preliminary investigation showed the F-350 had been traveling eastbound on Joseph Biggs Highway in the 1100 block, when for an unknown reason it left the right side of the roadway, traveled across a residential driveway and then collided head-on into a tree.
