Location: E/B I-70 at Mile Marker 60 (between MD-144 and MD-75) in New Market, Frederick County, Maryland.

Narrative: On 10/24/2019 at 0301 hours, troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack were dispatched to a two vehicle collision in the area of E/B I-70 at Mile Marker 60 in New Market, Frederick County, Maryland. Upon arriving on scene, troopers found that the vehicles involved included a tanker semi-trailer truck and a passenger car (believed to be a Honda Civic). The passenger car was fully engulfed in flames and one unidentified occupant was located deceased inside. The adult male and sole occupant of the semi-trailer truck was transported by ground EMS from the scene. At this time both directions of I-70 are shut down and will remain so for an extended period. A detour has been established with the assistance of the State Highway Administration / CHART, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, and Fire Police. All east and westbound I-70 traffic is being diverted onto MD-144 (from Exit 59 for MD-144 and Exit 62 for MD-75 respectively). This is still an active scene and no further information is available at this time. Additional updates will follow.
