State Police Fatal motorcycle crash in Cecil County

(Port Deposit, MD) On Saturday June 1, 2019 shortly after 7:00 PM troopers from North East Barrack responded to Susquehanna River Road, north of Canal Road for a single vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed the operator of a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, John Smith, 26 y.o. of Red Lion Pennsylvania, attempted to pass an unloaded school bus and lost control. The Harley traveled off the roadway, where Smith and his passenger Brittny Winter, 24 y.o. of Fawn Grove Pennsylvania, were thrown from the motorcycle. Winter was transported to Christiana Hospital in Delaware where she is being treated for her injuries via Delaware State Police medevac. Smith was transported to Harford Memorial Hospital by Cecil County Emergency Services medics, however he succumbed to his injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours with the assistance of the State Highway Administration. A Maryland State Police crash reconstructionist is investigating this collision.
