The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that took place on Sunday in Fort Washington. The decedent is 24-year-old Edwin Martinez of Alexandria, Virginia.
On October 31, 2021, at approximately 12:30 am, patrol officers were called to Indian Head Highway near Fort Washington Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed the decedent was struck as he attempted to cross northbound Indian Head Highway. He had just been involved in a minor traffic collision with a second car at that location. The decedent had been attempting to cross the roadway to speak to the other involved driver when he was struck. The driver of the vehicle that struck the decedent remained on the scene and was not injured.
