The department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that took place Sunday evening in Landover. The deceased pedestrian is identified as 36-year-old Tangela Lewis of Landover.
On February 28, 2021, at approximately 7:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the 7200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway for a collision involving a pedestrian. Lewis was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The preliminary investigation revealed Lewis was struck as she attempted to cross northbound Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. Preliminarily, she was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene and was not injured. A passenger in the striking vehicle was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
