PGPD Fatal Shooting in Capitol Heights Under Investigation

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is working to determine the circumstances of a fatal shooting in Capitol Heights early Sunday morning. The decedent is 28-year-old Donte Morton of District Heights.

On March 20, 2022, at approximately 3:00 am, officers responded to the 8500 block of Ashwood Drive for a shooting. The decedent was located in a parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later. A second adult male was also shot during this incident. His injuries do not appear life-threatening.



Investigators have identified all of the individuals involved in this incident and are actively examining evidence. The preliminary investigation revealed the decedent and the second adult male both fired handguns during an altercation. Detectives are also in consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office regarding any potential criminal charges in this case.
