On 06/13/2020 at approximately 2223 hours, CPL. Bowers # 4890 was working a State Highway Administration overtime assignment. CPL Bowers was approached by a motorist and advised of a single vehicle personal injury traffic accident involving a motorcycle I-70 westbound @ the 47 mile marker.
Upon CPL. Bowers arriving on scene he observed debris from the motorcycle accident in the roadway and individuals performing CPR on the motorcycle operator. CPL Merkelson # 5047 along with TFC. Deater # 6463 accident Reconstructionist TFC. Carter # 6361, and two Frederick Sheriff Deputies all responded to the scene of the accident. EMS was dispatched and responded as well.
Once on scene, EMS personnel took over CPR. EMS Personnel were unable to revive the operator of the motorcycle, a 48 year old Hispanic male of Frederick County, and he succumbed to his injuries on scene. Notification with next of kin was done on scene with the son and wife of the deceased. Contact was made and a medical examiner responded to the scene of the accident.
State Highway Operations were contacted and arrived on scene to assist with the lane closures during the accident investigation. Lane one westbound remained open during the investigation to allow for the flow of traffic. No other vehicles were reported to have been involved and the traffic accident investigation is ongoing.
