Father Killed Child Over Video Game

That is absolutely pathetic....they should let the mom beat him to death.

NBC 10 reporter Deanna Durante said a note on the door of the North Philadelphia row-home Monday night said not to judge Spellman because he would never hurt a child.

OOohhh riiight.... you mean like the one he just killed?

Interesting quotes:

"His confession was she pulled the cords in the game, the system is -- the box itself -- fell, and he was upset and then responsible for paying for the game, so he hit her in her face twice," Turman said, adding that Spellman also allegedly slung the child over a chair.

However:

I guess someone's using a definition of "hurt" for which I had been previously unaware.

I play video games and my kids have pulled the cords out, among other things, numerous times. I can't imagine wtf he coulda been playing that got him mad enough to hit her like that. Just when you think you've heard it all, another @sshole is right there to surprise you with something insane :ohwell:

:yeahthat:

I've always been a gamer. So much, in fact, that some people have wondered aloud how I managed to have kids at all. Having children has sometimes slowed my gaming, but never stopped it, and I continue to be a gamer. My kids - not to mention the cat which infests our house - knock the controller cords out all the friggin time. The cat thinks that anything that dangles needs to be swatted into oblivion. (I oftentimes agree).

Anyway, it's irritating as hell when it happens during intense action - but never in my life has a borked connection ever sent me flying into a violent rage. Not even on the last level of either Halo.

I have also since discovered is that a wireless game controller is very liberating.

Not only that...

... but this quote gets me too:
Turman said that when she woke, "I asked why my baby not breathing. He says, 'She's breathing.' Her eyes were closed."
That, for me, indicates something worse than a plain rage/emotion-driven act; that is a calculated attempt to dismiss her injury and avoid guilt.

If he cared about the girl whatsoever he would have called emergency personnel.

I think he knew damn well what he was doing during the act and the result of his actions afterward. He had better go up for murder 1 or there will be no justice.

Points to consider and discuss:

I can just picture the scene …there he was... peeved off at the child for knocking the game off and interrupting his game play...hit the kid...probably knew there was something wrong with the child (it was no doubt lifelessly limp) as he laid it down somewhere out of his way. He went back to the game, turned it on and started playing again. Then as Ms Turman walked in from her “nap”...and looks over at the baby and sees something wrong. Spellman keeps playing, never taking his eyes off the screen. Turman, in a distraut voice asks, "…why [is] my baby not breathing”. Spellman replies, 'She's breathing.' Her eyes were closed."

All right, the father must have been screaming and yelling at the child before, during, and after the beating. I find it hard to believe that with such anger than you would be able to just say nothing throughout the entire time.
With all the yelling going on, and not to mention noise made from the game system when it fell, and the child after it was thrown [“slung”] over a chair, how can one continue to sleep? Had I heard the ruckus, I’d be running out quick to see what was going on. My daughter is 2 years old, and if she is not in the same room as I and I hear strange sounds – the calvary is rushing in with full force – trust me! Even if I am sleep, I cannot tell you the number of times I woke when hearing my baby cry – even when both bed room doors were closed!

n a way, I feel that the child’s death was partially the mother’s fault and inevitable. It was just a matter of time. I say this because:

1) The woman is 21 years old and perhaps too immature to know how to care for her child. She left the child with a man who did not even have the integrity to marry the woman he knocked her up – the first OR second time. If he cannot commit himself to her, what would make her think he would do as much for the child?

2) What kind of a family has parents that claim individual ownership of a child over joint ownership? “My baby’s momma” line comes to mind. Then gain, the two are not married. Does the lack of a marital bond take away from a couple’s ability to be good parents? I don’t think so but I would be willing to say that it certainly does not add to the quality parenting of either’s behalf much less the bonds that hold a family together.

3) Why go by another name? Muchless, why go by a name that can be possibly construed as having Islamic roots? There could be a million reasons he had a second name but why not pick a name that could be recognized as being rooted as American? If Spellman is Muslim, how does this possibly make the “non radical” Muslim appear to non Islamic cultures? Again, I understand his religious affiliation was not made known but I think it is an interesting subject to discuss. All this taken into consideration, I wonder if Turman really knew who this guy was before having sexual relations with him.
