Favorite Places in the Outer Banks

Go here --> Timbuck II Shopping Entertainment Dining in Corolla, NC - Services

Drive down to Oregon Inlet around 3:30-4:00 and watch the fishermen bring in their catch for the day.

When you leave Oregon Inlet, keep driving south and see the dunes. They are amazing. Go to Cape Hatteras and check out the view from the top of the lighthouse.

All musts for me.

Last time I was there they had just brought in a huge Mako.

The beaches along that stretch are the best. Just walk over the dunes (where allowed).

Red Drum Tap Room. Good food and lots of beers.

If you have 4 wheel drive get on the beach near Oregon Inlet for a beach day and Corolla for the ponies and the sunken forest on the beach.

Climb the dunes at Jockeys Ridge for sunset. Actually I've never done this.:killingme but it would be a great idea.

I love love love the Outer Banks.

Kitty Hawk, Nags Heads and Corolla have restaurants, bars, shopping, outlets, bumper cars, bowling, movies, etc.....

I like to go out past Nags Head down 12 headed to Hatteras. Only thing on this road is beach and sand. There are three towns that you will pass...Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo. Not much there, few shops and that is about it. The town of Avon is also on 12. Avon is small also but does have putt putt golf, a movie theater, grocery store, gift shops and places to eat. You can see the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in this area and if you go all the way to the end of 12 you can visit a couple of museums and take the ferry *FREE* over to Oracoke Island. This island has a very small lighthouse, restaurants, gift shops, beach, beach, beach and a marina.

Have a blast and RELAX~~~~~~~~~~~

Roanoke Island/Manteo has outdoor theater and it also has an aquarium...

North Carolina Aquariums » Home

It's a bit pricey but the kids loved it......they have a *petting tank* when you first go in. The kids can actually touch the animals in the tank. I can't remember what was in the tank......LOL

On Roanoke Island they have a park that has a representation of a particular 16th-century English merchant ship. Actually they have 2 ships.

Roanoke Island Attractions, Performances & Events | Roanoke Island

Roanoke is located past Nags Head, instead of turning on 12 and heading to Cape Hatteras just stay straight and follow the signs to the attractions.

I like to get in the ocean.

The last two times I was there you would have needed at least a 5mm wet suit. Once was August hotter than heII and the water was about 64. Other time was June I think. Cold water, but not hot weather. Something about the current, wind, blah, blah. Ruins the surf fishing too.

I was there last week (Duck) and the water was surprisingly warm for the outer banks (72 degree water temp posted on the lifeguard's station).

And we always go here to eat one night: Colington Cafe of the Outer Banks - Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina
It's delicious!

We're going in Sept. I'll try one or both.:yay:

Good place to get a t-shirt too.:killingme

I bowl overhand
Every wardrobe needs a "Try My Nuts" and a "Brew Thru" shirt.

And "Dirty Dicks"

"I got my crabs at Dirty Dicks!!"

The one on the way down to Hatteras is better than the one near Kitty Hawk...

And stay away from Jimmy's Buffet.. the seafood there is OLD!!

I used to like to stay at the old 'Carolinian' hotel.
Charming place right on the beach in Nags Head.
It was demolished in 2001.
