What's something you miss about the past? Anything at all...post it here. I want to learn about the good ole' days.

This thread has the potential to be really interesting..

i miss having a pager (don't laugh). Between social medial ,texting, calling, etc I feel too accessible compared to the 90s

and i loved when gas was 99 cents :roflmao:

AOL Instant Messenger was fun too. Since I'm a software engineer, it wasn't uncommon to meet a genius programmer or someone else with exceptional talent that could mentor you/help you with college homework.

I miss being fairly secluded in my own little corner of the world. With the internet, now I am aware of things that A) I don't need to know about; B) I don't want to know about; C) I can't do anything about; and D) I was happier before I knew these things/people existed.

New music trends, music stopped about the time American Idol came on, now everything is a manufactured amalgamation of other music and it all sounds the same. Hell even the rap 20 years ago was better.

Well, free range kids... heck, we'd all leave the house around 9-10 during the summer and not return to 5-6 for dinner. A kid can learn alot during the day. But nevermore....

Absolutely!! I miss how prevalent and unregulated P2P networks were. WinMX was my absolute favorite.

Hell, the internet itself was a completely different place back in the day...

i would dial-up with 28.6k/56k (bad phone lines in our area) for hours and educate myself about things I never knew existed when I got my first computer. I miss the novelty and self-discovery that comes with growing up.

I miss having to discover things on my own. When I was a younger you learned things passed through someone you physically knew or you got a hold of :gasp: a book.

Now I can find everything on any subject on the internet which isn't bad but even Victoria isn't secret anymore.

That was all part of the bigger picture of my comment.

I miss the old TV shows. I know you can see a lot of them on TV Land or other channels, but I miss more than just the shows themselves. I miss family time watching shows together. When I was little, I remember watching the Wonderful World of Disney movies on Sunday evening. We would sit around and watch Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, or even old Westerns on Saturday mornings. It was wonderful that we as little children would be able to cuddle with Mom and/or Dad on the sofa while watching a show that we all enjoyed. Quality time together....I miss that these days.

I bowl overhand
Pick up Kick Ball, or football games in the empty lot in the neighborhood.. Playgrounds getting over used and abused..

Skinned knees and elbows, emergency room visits just for being a kid...

Being chased by the game warden for fishing in unauthorized spots..

Waiting for the VERY last street light to come on before going home..

Climbing trees, building forts, playing Army.. with Realistic toy guns.. and knowing the difference.

Indeed
... I miss the 1990's
Web Pages were all in gray back ground and courier font , the fanciest thing you might see is a couple of 20k jpgs and [blink] word [/blink]
28.8 and then 33.6 .... 'sundowning' or downloading large game demos 500 mb between 12 - 6 am and the internet back bone quieted down and downloads moved faster

Web Chat Broadcasting ... [early java driven chat room]
