Fed Salaries (by name!) online!

But wait, there's more...
I can't believe this information is available on the internet! :shocking: The info is from 2001, but there, nonetheless! :bubble: Go ahead, feddies ... put your last name in! I'm in there; Cari, I found your hubby; my boss is in there. :shocking: Basically, if you have a last name and the department they work for, you have their grade/step, and performance bonuses they've received.

Find a fed grade/bonus info

I can see this making it really "competitive" come a-76 time. :bubble:

*possible repeat

Yep, there you are - bigger than sh*t.

My first reaction is that this is a major invasion of privacy. BUT federal workers are paid by us taxpayers so we should be privy to what, exactly, we're paying them. Hmmm.....I'll have to think about this some more....

Salary tables are public information already on OPM, just not by name. And you can get -- via a FOIA request -- a list of positions in a particular office as well as the grades assigned to them (not necessarily the grade/step the person HAS ... just the range).

I think that linking the individual to it is wrong. I'd have to consult my FOIA/PA manual, but I'm pretty sure the lawyer who reviewed that decision was high or drunk when he/she slapped their seal of approval on it. :bubble:

Newspapers often print the salaries of government officials, but those are usually people with a lot of authority and responsibility. The Baltimore Sun did that recently, and it turned out the two highest paid state employees were Ralph Fridgen and Gary Williams.

Political appointees have had their salaries posted publicly before b/c of the nature of their appointment ... and you didn't have to search for 'em. They'd post their picture, salary, office, etc. right there in black and white in the paper. :ohwell:

If you go to the Washington Post page, click on politics, then federal page (all in the blue box on the left side) the box appears on that page ... the box title is: "Federal Workers Look-up".

Mine isn't on there... but I started in '01 so that's probably why. :ohwell:

I am like vrai on this. We are public officials so taxpayers should be able to know what they're paying us, but it is an invasion of privacy too.

I'm torn.

So, my biatch-teamleader got cash award twice ($500 in early 2002 and another $500 in late 2002).

That's one reason why I hate "good ole boys" network down here.

it ain't just 'down there' :really:

my boss ... who kept me here till 5:45 last night to get this project done then wanted her changes ready first thing this morning, just mosey'd on in here at 2:10 this afternoon. No one knew till 11:30 she wouldn't be in till supposedly 12:30, which is ironic how that always happens when our 'big' boss ain't here. :bubble:

Actually it has been held by many lower courts that public servant pay can be attached to name.

School districts, cities, etc... all have to provide a copy of all persons pay, etc on request. It can not be specifc in their home address, home information, or what benefits they use, but they can know your total salary (benefits package and all) or base salary plus bonuses.
