Fence Contractors

Please read all the fine print in any contract you sign. Recently I hired a fence contractor based out of Mechanicsville that put up part vinyl and part wood fence. The fence had to be fixed after the initial install because it was hastily put up and the gate was not as wide as the contract stated. The wood part consisted of cut into slats and a roller coaster shape at the top.

I put a deposit down for a deck and later found out I could no longer afford it. This company returned a partial deposit claiming nearly $200 in admin fees!! They did absolutely nothing on the deck but get the permit, nothing, yet claimed these fees for gas, time, phone calls, etc. My take on this is part of doing business. I will never do business with these people again nor recommend them to anyone. They do shoddy work.

Be for warned, they advertise on this site.

I don't really feel as though they did you wrong. You agreed to have them install a fence. They pulled the permit, which I'm sure cost them money. And in order to pull said permit, there was some type of administrative work involved. Permits don't just fall from the sky.

Companies have these policies in place so they do not waste their time, their money or yours. And I'm sure somewhere in the "fine print" you acknowledged their admin fees so who can you really blame?

Exactly. Part of the process is submitting plan drawings. First they have to get a survey of your lot. Then somebody had to create the drawings showing offset from the property lines. A second drawing has to show structural details, footings, etc. Then they have to fill out the required forms. A permit runner brings the package to the permitting office, where the often stand and wait for the permit to be approved so they can run it right back to the contractor.

Sorry, but other people need to be paid for their work too :)

so are you complaining because they did a horrible job on your fence and then you rewarded them by contracting them to build your deck?
OR are you upset that they charged you $200 for your bad budgeting?
Either way I will be "for warned"

Nope. Tire kickers will put you out of business if you let them. It's not unreasonable for them to want reimbursement for their time and whatever it cost to get the permit.

If it’s the same company, out of Mechanicsville, that I used last year then I have nothing but good things say. The fence was put up quickly and correctly. In addition when a latch somehow broke (I think the dogs did it) they were out the next day to fix it, with no cost to me. Maybe it was just you:shrug:

Thanks again Massy:howdy:
