If they can find a suitable landing site in Crisfield, Anderson said his company could start building a boat for the bay by February and have it in the water by the end of 2008.

However, Anderson said he wants to make sure his company has community support before deciding to dock a ferry. In addition to meeting with Crisfield's mayor and council members, he planned to meet today with St. Mary's County officials.

"We're not moving anywhere until we talk to the people in the community," he said.

I just can't see a people only ferry being that popular. I'd go for one ride on it though.

Same here, but it's a start.

I figure it would be great for a day or weekend trip to the inner harbor. I've never needed a car in Baltimore.

I spoke to Roy Dyson a couple of years back about a ferry--for cars.

He stated that We didn't want all that extra traffic on our roads going to the ferry, then he said there wouldn't be enough people using the ferry to make it financially acceptable. Yes: I thought that it was tough trying to figure how too much traffic jibed with not enough people ,but finally decided Mr Dyson was not in favor of a ferry , nor a bridge going from our side to the Eastern Shore , and the matter was dead as far as he was concerned. If Mr. Dyson isn't for it, I doubt we will ever get it and he and his Democrat friends pretty much run this county.

As for a passenger ferry from St. Mary's I dont see much use for it, since Ocean City and Salisbury arent in walking distance of Crisfield.

What I cant understand is Senator Dyson saying that Maryland cant afford a ferry service, when North Carolina has such a great system of Ferry's down their coast.

Are we more poor than North Carolina? Is their system paying for itself? Why is Maryland's situation so different than that of North Carolina that a ferry across the bay is beyond reach.

I dont know about anyone else ,but I would just as soon drive aboard a ferry and spend two stressless hours crossing the bay ,as taking a chance on my life in traffic for two hours to Annapolis, and sitting for two hours trying to get across the Bay bridge, then another hour getting back to Crisfield. But then I am sure Mr. Dyson knos what is best for me <S>

If that's the case, I wonder which Maryland Congressional rep wrote this little porky barrel line into the budget.

An $800,000 federal allocation for infrastructure for the project remains unspent at the Maryland Department of Transportation.

It's called NIMBY - Not in My Backyard. Second as a member of the democratic party Mr Dyson must support the agenda that the majoriy of state funds go towards Baltimore and Prince Georges county; neither of which would benefit from a ferry service.

They said on the news tonight that this ferry was for passengers and small cargo....I wonder if a motorcycle is considered small cargo
