What, no pictures? And you'd better bring half your paycheck when you gas it up.

Truck I traded in was Diesel. No biggy. Besides, half my paycheck is going toward the payment. Seriously, It gets better mileage than the gas powered version so fuel price is a wash, and with 660 ft-lbs of torque, it'll pull my house anywhere.

Post your mileage results when you get it broken in please.

Good mileage info here: Diesel Place - Duramax Diesel Discussion Forums. Dude there delivers RV's and in 7 months has gone over the 100,000 mile mark. 16 mpg average over 100,000 miles ain't bad at all considering these things only get 8-10 mpg when towing heavy loads, and more than 50% of that guys miles are with a load. REALLY good information in that thread alone.

Seems that the trucks mileage REALLY improves after 10,000 miles, then again after 30,000 miles. Once I read that, I was sold. I was nervous about it before. It all came together at the right time I guess.

And I guess I just jumped at the end of the line for "time will tell, wish me luck". :coffee:

Oh yea, the other line I jumped in back of was the line of men with girlfriends awaiting marriage that think marriage was just delayed another 5-6 years. :lmao:

Congrats! A friend of mine is now traveling with 38' 5th wheel somewhere in Canada. He has 2500 HD , Mega Cab, Long bed, 4x4, 6 Cyl. CUMMINS, Power rear window etc. He loves it.

My question is .. how common (rare?) is to have a Cummins in a 2500HD ?

It's actually not THAT rare. The Cummins conversion is actually very popular and relatively easy to do. Ford and GM owners have been doing it for years. They drive the OEM motor till it dies, 400,000-500,000 miles usually does it, or blow it up from increasing internal pressures beyond what the heads can handle using aftermarket programmers, then drop in a Cummins Crate motor if everything else in the truck is still healthy.

Cummins inline 6 cylinders are OEM in Dodge Diesels, that would be the Dodge 2500HD or 3500HD diesels. :yay:

Do not be confused with the Chevy 2500HD or 3500HD, they use the Chevrolet designed Duramax Diesel as OEM...

I debated back and forth in late '06 about diesel or gas - I am only pulling 8000 lbs max. and only drive the truck about 6K a year. To justify the price of 10K additional for a diesel was just not there, so I bought a Chevy 2500HD Quad-Cab 6-liter gasser... I get 9.5 MPG pulling the trailer, fully loaded, not too shabby.

I would love to have the diesel, but right now will never use the full power and never would really drive it. :ohwell:

PonyTail - that Victory Red sure does look nice, I love my Victory Red - it looks sweet when it is clean. :yay:

I'm not confused. I'm well aware of who makes what for OEM. Like I said in my post, assuming that Searide is accurate in his statement that his Buddy has a GM 2500HD with a Cummins in it (and Searide is a pretty smart guy), It's a very common conversion after the OEM motors die.

My boss and office mate have 2006 Dodge's with the Cummins diesel - they are REALLY nice trucks... those engines are unbelievable after reading about the longevity of them.
