EXCLUSIVE: Federal transportation officials nabbed hundreds of truckers found not to be proficient in English, as otherwise routine stops at weigh stations led to thousands of violations amid a three-day national crackdown.

The latest iteration of Operation SafeDRIVE (Distracted, Reckless, Impaired, Visibility Enforcement) ran from Jan. 13–15 on trucking corridors in 26 states and the District of Columbia and removed nearly 2,000 unqualified truckers and other drivers from the road, USDOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) told Fox News Digital.

That's an efficient way of getting it done. I didn't notice any missing supplies online or in stores lately; I wonder what the go to thing for illegals to truck is.

They typically get CDLs in states where the requirements are pretty lax, like California. I remember there being a big uproar on social media because of Indians with CDLs from California driving erratically. They'll haul anything as long as they're getting a paycheck and the employers can pay them less than average wages due to the liability that they're not legal citizens.

I thought NAFTA let's Mexican trucks run across the country?

Which is different than an American company hiring a known illegal who cannot read English and turning them loose with an 80,000lb truck.

Last time I checked trucking companies don't issue CDLs.
Nope, but they should know if the person they hire il legal. And they should know if the person they hire can read
English.

If the state tells me they are qualified to drive, then they are qualified to drive. Just because the rules are changed by executive order why would you go after the employer? Not to mention how would they know if they are illegal, tattoo's? When I was in the union their PROOF of citizenship was a SS# nothing more.

Our company was required to register an EVerify account, as were many other companies. I'm not sure if a trucking company would have to do that or not but, anyway, there have been many reported instances of ICE detaining employees that had reportedly been "vetted" by the EVerify system. It's entire "claim to fame" is that employers that use that system are absolved of any legal ramifications of hiring an illegal. Like so many other gumint programs, it ain't working so good.

I'm thinkin' that it's probably a good idea to ask SGI for more proof of legal residence. Can't be too careful these days.

If you can prove you followed the law in vetting them, sure. Including this part...... Which requires all motor carriers to perform a road test on all drivers. Seems not being able to read English would be pretty easy to catch.

I really care far less about immigration status than I do about safety. I don't really care about them proving citizenship. I do care about them having to prove they can safely operate the truck. If you cannot read and understand English, no truck for you!

I am pretty sure that a trucking company would definitely place a new driver in a $140,000 tractor without a road test!:sarcasm::sarcasm:

What we need is strick penalties for anyone who hires illegals, across the board in all occupations.

So easy to do with today's technology.
The death penalty.

If we start making more crimes eligible for the death penalty, and actually using it, criminal activity will come down.

If by by no other reason, less repeat offenses.
