OK. In dealing unsuccessfully with various methods of Virus removal, I started searching the internet for help with my symptoms. Finallly pinged on a site dealing with a Blank System Restore Window.

Tips Fixes & FAQs

I entered the 3 commands as stated, and 10 minutes later, a Sytem Restore ocmpleted to a date prior to the issues starting and all of my lost data including my background picture is back. :yahoo:

I can now install, delete and move about. Now the search is on for the little bugger that got me hosed up in the first place.

Just passing on what may be some useful info for you all

Also, if you do this, once teh virus is removed, disable the system restore option if you run XP. The virus could be "backed up" as part of you system restore, so I have learned. :yay:

Congo Ratz .....

now buy the kids a cheap used PC

They have one. I'm just not smart enough to install what I need to on it, to get them access to the internet. So, my solution is that they aren't allowed to access the internet unless it's specifically required by a homework assignment and even with that, they aren't allowed to do it without my help.

Sounds like a good plan to me! children under the age of 13 shouldn't be online anyway...
Unless its for homework of course.
