I know folks that use and like Edward Jones Inc. There's an office in the First Colony area.

I personally have no finances to plan with. :lol:

Indendent look (i.e. not rep'ing a financial companies products) at your total situation and will provide recommendations as to what path to pursue.

However, if you are looking for an Investment Represenative who will analyze your situation and structure an investment portfolio to fit I use and recommend the Edward Jones company.

Best test for any investment type is to walk in and tell them you have $X in debt and $Y to invest. If they ignore the debt but start to sell their products to invest $Y find another investment type.

Check with your employer. Sometimes as part of their benefits package they'll offer financial planning services at no cost to the employee.

Navy Federal Credit Union has a Financial Planner named Stephen Petrie. He's works either by appointment or walk-in and his services are free to members.

My experience with CFPs from banks/credit unions is they want to sell you their own products, which are usually more expensive and less effective. It is difficult to find a truly independent planner. Do your own research, attend some classes, and you would be surprised at how much you can do/learn yourself without a professional!

Good article provided by Kiplinger regarding Financial Advisor's.

This is a different person than an independent Certified Financial Planner who does not rep or sell any investment products.

Many well known financial experts write into this web site, and they will frequently give free financial advice:
Bogleheads :: Index

If you need more than just a few questions answered, some of them will work for a fee, even over a distance.
