FiOS dead?

Can't say that I'm surprised. Infrastructure costs are much lower on LTE.

Does Verizon Cable Deal Spell Death of FiOS Expansion? - The New York Times Certainly Seems to Think So | DSLReports.com, ISP Information

For more than a year we've noted that with the exception of markets that have signed franchise obligations (New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia), Verizon's fiber to the home FiOS build is essentially over. The company had previously stated that they wanted to ramp up user penetration in deployed markets to somewhere around 40% before continuing the build -- if they continue the build at all. Verizon's been selling off older DSL networks, and with roughly 50% of their subscribers still on DSL, there's absolutely no indication that's going to change anytime soon for those users.

The last CEO of Verizon had said that he wanted to sell off all of his copper lines and facilities but no one wanted them. They realized the tremendous liability involved with the maintenance of this dying entity. He wanted Verizon to become a totally wireless company.

Now the new CEO of Verizon (who came from Verizon wireless), wants the same thing. Unfortunately this is similar thinking to Obama's ending our dependence on oil. It ain't gonna happen for eons, if ever. Just as we cannot survive on a battery powered country, many people (older ones) do not want to buy, understand or use "high tech" devices.
