Saw this coming back from Target and going to drop off a movie at BB. Looks like one unit was fully involved, and anthers roof was catching.

All the HVFD's FB says is that some firefighters went to the ER with injuries.

Its so heartbreaking....people are arriving, just now finding out that their homes are distroyed, grabbing what little they can out of the units that are still there but heavily damaged.... One woman is clutching her dog, soaked to the bone from the water. I have never witnessed anything like this before. Makes you think twice about your problems. I still don't know about those poor children, I keep waiting for someone to say they were with a neighbor or on the playground.....anywhere but inside that apartment.

Best I can count 9 to 12 families are homeless tonight. And in my ignorance, never being exposed to anything like this...........now have a small idea what a real disaster must be like. I will from this day on, think twice when I say no to a request for a donation...........I will dig for anything I can spare!

Just to shed some light

Just to clear up a couple of rumors about this fire. First I want to clear up the fact that there were no civilians hurt. The first arriving unit encountered live electrical wires in one of the fire apartments, each of them received a little "shock" from said wires and were transported to SMH to be checked out. Aside from that, no injuries, civilian or fire. Furthermore the fire damage was contained to the two involved apartments. Obviously those apartments directly on either side and the one on the first floor received water damage but every effort was taken by all units operating on the scene to minimize the damage. I hope this helps to clear up some of the misunderstanding or rumor mill concerning the fire. I don't have a total number of displaced residents, but my prayers are with all of those involved.

Great job

Channel 4 just reported that 2 dozen people are out of their homes.

Great job to all these Volunteers that help protect our community! Let's all remember to support these folks that help keep us safe when the unexpected happens.

I was counting on the rumors being wrong..................I have never been so glad they were. Still this morning it seems so unreal, one poor lady came walking from outback while I was walking my dogs....completely in tears, I don't know where she lived or how much damamges she suffered. Water sometimes does more damage than the actual fire, and all of the access holes they had to knock into adjoining buildings.....its amazing and heartbreaking. Thank you to those who posted and answered my prayers that the rumors were wrong.

Shawn, just want to send a kudos to your operations on interior, and Joe's overall command of the incident. With the amount of fire you had through the roof, you guys did an excellent job on completely mitigating the incident, and with the wind, prevent the spread to the expsoures on the B and D sides.
Once again, good work. :buddies: :yay:

Thanks for the comments, however at the end of the day it was the guys with their hands on the lines and ladders that did the work. Overall I think it was very good to see how every department worked together to halt the extension and limit the additional damage to the structure. Many people out there may not realize the potential that a fire like that presents. It could have very easily extended to several other apartments, possibly the whole building if it were not for very quick and aggressive tactics taken by those that did indeed come out to help. Many many thanks to all of the Volunteers from every organization.

I want to breifly comment on some other rumors and concerns that I have heard from the public. Please don't think for one moment that a sprinkler system will handle every fire that it could encounter. This was a fire that started on the rear porch of a second floor apartment and then autoextended (walked up the outside) to the apartment above and the cockloft. Once the fire is above the sprinkler heads (there are not any in the cockloft area) it already has the upper hand. The only active mitigation at that point is to open the ceiling on the top floor, get a vent hole in the roof, and get a line on the fire ASAP. With wind driving the fire, this has to happen even faster.

In the end, these guys and gals did exactly what they signed up to do. They assisted their fellow citizens. I think many people forget that they too can help. If someone, anyone out there is reading this and thinks that they would like to be a part of this, contact your local fire or ems dept and see what type of programs they have for someone like YOU. I know that Station 9 is always in need of members, I only mention them because that is where I volunteer.

This fire was doubly sad for me as these are my neighbors as well. I live in the same community, a little further back in the community, but still in Laurel Glenn. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the involved families. I hope that all of them are able to get back on their feet very swiftly. Stay safe out there!!!

While I feel bad for EVERYONE impacted by this, it is sad to think that the careless actions of one person has ruined the lives of many. Please people, if you smoke or use fire in any way, be careful and be aware that especially in an apartment or townhouse complex you have not only your safety to consider, but others' as well. Prayers to all involved.

Any idea about donations? Those people must need everything. Being spring cleaning time, I know we have a lot of almost new stuff that could be donated.

I was talking to one of the families that was displaced, they have a 11 month old son, and they were not home when the fire started. they said everything was ruined due to water damage. i am sure they can use anything, but i have not talked to them lately.
