CARROLL COUNTY, MD (July 8, 2023) - A joint investigation continues between the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office into the cause of a mobile home fire that claimed the life of a local man Saturday afternoon.

Just after 1:00 p.m., Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire departments responded to a reported house fire in the 2400 block of Fairmont Road in Hampstead. Firefighters arrived at the one-story mobile home in Rockbrook Trailer Park and discovered heavy fire in the rear of the mobile home. Firefighters entered and subsequently located a victim inside.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Deputy State Fire Marshals concluded the fire originated in the home's rear bedroom, where the victim was located. The official identification and cause of death are pending an autopsy. However, the victim is believed to be the 70-year-old homeowner.

Smoke alarms were reported inside the home; however, whether they were activated is unknown. Investigators consider the home a total loss, and two other family members living there were not home. Other family members are assisting both.

A joint investigation between the local police department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal is standard operating procedure whenever a fatal fire occurs.

The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the exact cause of death and where he will be positively identified.
