It really depends on the fire departments, it may have been a members house. Im a member of a department here in SoMd. and have a pool but I have only used my dept. to top off my pool maybe 2 times, we normally dont do it. I just go ahead and use my garden hose, it can open a can of worms, people might start saying you filled so and so pool up, way cant we get ours filled.
Try calling the MVFD, they may fill or may not do it. Expect to make a donation to them if you expect for them to fill it. The tanker trucks hold at the max 3,000 gallons, but mostly more like around 2,500 so if its anything more then just topping it off, it can be very time consuming to make alot trips back and forth.

I did try that route (fire dept) but they acted like I had to heads. I guess because I wasnt part of the dept. I would suggest calling METCOM and seeing who they recommend to deliver it. It's been years since we needed a water delivery but I know it was metered from the fire hydrant on Airport View Dr. via METCOM.

BDVFD filled the Elks Lodge Pool many times for exchange to have a party for the BDVFD and Lexington Park/California Resuce Squad members for FREE at no charge. This is a good "service exchange". :yay:

Don't quote me on this. I may be wrong, but I think that's how they have always done it in the past (I was told by someone, but again I may be wrong).

It should be a small fee considering I saw them filling up from a local fire hydrant in Leonardtown... a couple days ago...:eyebrow:

They all do this, pool filling companies that is. I believe they get a permit from the county or state.

The pool company tankers hold a LOT more water than a fire department truck - like OHG said, typically it is a member.

Yeah they all get the water from hydrants but its metered and the customers receipt has the beginning meter number and the end meter number to show exactly how many gallons was pumped from what hydrant. Believe me; METCOM gets their piece of the pie.

Mostly the Fire Departments should be aware that if they do a favor for a member and its seen , just as sure as dog crap stinks, some craphead will expect their pool filled too and get upset when it doesnt happen. People hate to see someone getting a freebie they cant get. Even if that person volunteers his time for nothing.

In actuality they cannot fill pools as a customer service as it would infringe on the business of someone who fills pools.

It appears they did someone a favor and someone saw it and now they want a piece of the action. Busted.

Certainly when you see a pool truck filling from a fireplug look at the plug, you will see a meter hooked to it.

This is off topic, but I wonder how the fire dept. are handling the gas prices. Those trucks must be a biatch to fill.

I don't see this as off topic; I will connect it to the original thread by saying that tax payers should not be paying the gas for fire trucks to be filling up people's pools. If we figure our gas on our 20mpg auto is $.20 a mile, what do we think it is for a fire truck?

Also, if your house was burning down, would you want to know that they were delayed in getting to your house because they were filling up someone's pool?

Now, it is one thing to do this as an exchange in the case of the Elks, when off duty, but another for it to be an expected service. Just my opinion.

Don't say anything about the FD on here. Wait for ppl to come and rip you a new one. They always complain about not having money. Well guess what, everyone has to deal with gas prices today. I pay plenty of money that goes towards taxes, as does everyone else. People on here will think of you as evil if you refuse to donate to them. It is no ones business who I donate to, and to get all up in arms because I don't hand my money out is simply ridiculous. Yes, the volunteers do a great job and we need them, but no I will not be handing out money left and right. With the economy now and gas going over $4, I believe that charity will begin at home for most of us.

Volunteer first, start biatching second...
