Fire in Dunkirk

On my way to work this morning I seen a fire in the shopping center south of the Wawa in Dunkirk, looked like the M & T bank was part of it. They had the southbound lane closed. Lot of fire trucks and police.

Any updates?

You got it, it was the Country Plaza. I know there are two malls there, its the one with the Paint Store, Barber Shop, Bank, Cleaners, etc.

Command reported heavy fire in the two end units on the Delta Side and through the roof with smoke pushing its way all the way to the bravo unit. Investigators are on scene now assessing and sounds like they are still hitting small pockets of fuego (aka: fire). I think it started just after 0600-0615...

After reading this I turned on Calvert's scanner, sounds like they have a huge paint mess. Heard someone say something about a "pond" of paint out back.

They also have Maryland Department of Environment en route from Baltimore to deal with the paint. Sounds like a big mess..... they are doing everything they can to stop it from going into the wetlands behind the strip mall.

What a mess that's going to be indeed. There are private residences behind there on Kirksville Lane (maybe a couple hundred feet or less). There was a vacant shop on the south end (was a billiard place), a tanning salon right next to Jerry's Duron paint store (owned by his wife, but looked vacant last I went to the ATM next door), and the M&T bank right on the north end. Hell, the Dunkirk VFD is only a couple hundred feet away right around the corner.

Heard them mention a Karate place and also the grill was trying to open for refreshments for the firefighters but they have no water.

Floor-to-ceiling paint on racks in one storage room, and two aisles of stuff in the main store area, not to mention all of the other flammables/chemicals. That's going to take a while to clean up.

Guessing (hopefully) nobody was in any of those stores at that hour of the morning.

I heard this one this morning too. They were saying that the many, many 5 gallon pails of paint had melted, both oil based and latex. Huge mess, I am sure

Sorry to hear there was a fire at all, thankfully nobody was hurt. Am a little nervous about the damage done to the bank, have a lot of important documents in that bank in a safety deposit box.

Thought I heard there were arrests from this incident on the radio this morning but I can't find any articles on it.

What I heard was one of the tennants was arrested for arson. Seems they had a money dispute with another tennamt (owner?). Theyb were arrested down in Florida
