The fireworks displays that were to be held last night at the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds and on Solomons Island were postponed due to heavy rains. Both have been rescheduled for this evening, assuming that rain does not once again interfere.

The St. Mary's County government has announced that their show is scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m. at the county fairgrounds. The Solomons Business Association (SBA) has announced that their show is scheduled to start at sundown. The SBA also announced that this will be the last attempt for this year in the event that rain once again stops the show. The St. Mary's government representative we spoke with did not have any information regarding a subsequent rain date for their show.

The weather service is currently predicting a 60% chance of thunderstorms tonight. You can find the current weather prediction at http://weather.somd.com/.

The fireworks displays in Charles County went off last night without a hitch. Shows we held at Indian Head and at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata. Chesapeake Beach also held a show on Monday night. The Dennis Point Marina in Drayden presented the first display of fireworks in southern Maryland on Saturday night, July 1st.

Sorry, guys :frown:

We had perfect fireworks weather here last night. They shoot them off from a little island in the lake that's directly in front of my parents' back deck. Front row seats :yay:

Well, at least we know they didn't completely go to waste:

Fireworks Barge Explosion Causes Stir

A large explosion was heard at approximately 3:15 p.m. today, coming from a barge on the Patuxent River between Hollywood and Broomes Island.

911 communications called up fire rescue boats for St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles counties to be on stand by because numerous callers indicated a barge explosion.

Within minutes, officials learned the barge was loaded down with fireworks for one of the many canceled shows in Southern Maryland, and one accidentally went off.

No one was reported injured and the craft was not in trouble so the rescue mission was called off.

BOOM!!! :yikes:
