First Anniversary Labor Day

Just relocated here, and not that we don't like it here, we love it, but our first anniversary is Labor Day weekend. Any suggestions on where we should go? We were considering Outer Banks or Cape Cod, but the dang ride is so long. What about somewhere in the Bay? Any boats for rent to stay on? Thanks for helping out!

Love is where you 'make it' but OBX is really cool!

Outer banks would be a great place to go! May be a bit of a drive but well worth the drive! We used to live there and really miss the peace and tranquility of it! Ocracoke island(on the outer banks) has the best beaches in my opinion. not too many people so you don't have to worry about over crowding. But Cape Hattaras is nice as well.

I KNOW!!! :lalala: Sorry, used to lifeguard on Cape Hatteras. Oh the fires we would have on the Ocracoke beach. But 8 hours there, 8 hours back that leaves 1 day for fun. Glad to hear folks love it like I do. Maybe next time around, but having just received a new gig, my husband doesn't want to take much time off and I can't seys I blame 'em!

Oh well I tried! As for around here we just moved here ourselves and don't really know to much yet. Check out some of the other threads on here they may be of some help. I do believe there is a lot of places on the bay side that are nice.

Sorry, your advice is well taken. Maybe we'll reconsider. I wish there was an OBX nearby. Where did you live out there? So hard to leave, yes? Thanks goodness mine was only summer gigs; anymore and I would have been working full time at the Brew Thru...

8 hours?! From southern MD (Charles County anyway) it shouldn't take you more than 5 and that's with heavy Saturday traffic in summer so there's no speeding or anything of the sort. With the right route you could cut that trip down to a much more reasonable time than 8 hours.

I'm writing this, btw, from a cozy little house rented in the farthest north portion of Corolla where the beaches have been gorgeous and not crowded in the least for the past 2 weeks

Try looking into places in and around the Northern Neck of VA. Lots of quaint little towns and several nice B&B's down there. We stayed in one last year, it was right off a little creek and they provided canoes and kayaks for the guests, and of course a hugeantic breakfast each morning. You would be looking at maybe 1.5-2.0 hrs one way.

Our 10yr anniversary is near there (Sept. 6th). Happy (early) anniversary :flowers:

What about St Michaels, MD on the Eastern Shore?

Here are some other ideas:

Charter a silboat out of Annapolis, and take him on an anniversary sail.. You can go for dinner, or for an overnight, and learn to sail in the process..

:yeahthat:

I work at the State House in Annapolis. What a lot of people may not know is that the parking garage at Calvert Street (make a left, go to stop sign and make another left) is free on the weekends. You can park, walk to State Circle (do it everyday - not a big deal) and have all the amenities available. You can go down to the City Dock and catch a cruise on the Annapolitan to St. Michaels, eat at the Crab Claw or Longfellows, and then cruise on back. Stay at the Loews Hotel (if you want to stay downtown) and have a very nice weekend.

Just a suggestion...

Liking this idea! We stayed on a boat on our wedding night in Charleston; it was the perfect ending to a perfect day. Can anyone recommend a place?

Looking into the other ideas as well. Talbot county was mentioned by someone, too. Also, right on about Corolla...I always think of Ocracoke when I think OBX, but there are the northern beaches as well. What is neat is we may just do a few of these trips for weekends! Thanks again!

We're leaving for OBX soon. It is my favorite place is the world and not more than 6 hours (and six is only if you get stuck in traffic). You could stay at Sanderling in Duck, which I understand is a great place for a long weekend.

It really is. My family goes down in the summer for a few weeks and we rent a house then, but we try to go for a long weekend in the fall when there's nobody around and that's a beautiful place to stay. Even better, The Left Bank is right there for an amazing dinner. Just as long as you don't go south of Duck or north of Ocracoke then you can actually get some peace and quiet. Not so much a fan of the KDH/Kitty Hawk/Nags Head area for anything other than dinners or night activities (too crowded and noisy!).

Have you considered Newport, RI? It's an hour flight from BWI. There boats available for charter and whale watching tours. I would recommend not staying in Newport itself (over $350 a night) and staying in Middletown or near PVD airport.
