First Time Doggie Owner

I'm due to pick up my puppy in 3 weeks and I was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice on being a first time doggie owner.

My parents have always had dogs but this is my first, all by myself doggie.

You will baby that dog, trust me. My hubby got me a lab when we first got married. I think it was suppose to be company because he was working so much.

Him and I would take walks, watch TV together, go to the lake. I liked him more than I like most people.

You'll be fine. Just remember, take him out often and get him toys so they don't chew stuff in your house.

It is hard to believe it is just 3-weeks away. :huggy:

I know I'm excited and want 3 weeks to hurry up. I've been calling it "my dog" and last night the Dh was like "it's my dog too".

It will be his first time owning a inside only dog that is used for a pet instead of a hunting dog.

What kind of dog? I would recommend taking it to a puppy class. It's a lot of fun and a great way to socialize with puppy with humans and other dogs. There's a ton of information on the internet about puppy care. You can also join a doggie forum and get lots of advice and information.

Good luck.

Hello,
The one advice I can give you is this. If you are getting the dog from a breeder make sure that you get any Vet. information. Also make sure you get to meet the mommy and the litter mates this way you can see what kind of conditions that they are living in. i just brought a Papillon and made a mistake of not knowing what to ask or look for in a breeder. Well I ended up with a very sick puppy. She never told me about any scratches and hair missing. Well he had a scratch on his head that she told me the other puupy did it. Well come to find out when I took it to my Vet that he had mange. Was I ever mad. Well the vet and I call Human society on her and hopefully she will get in trouble. For one it is illeagle to sell a sick puppy. Well He is doing great now and He is such a loveable pup. I look at it this way I saved him from a bad place.
There are so many breeders out there that are out for the money and do not care for the animals like they should. So make sure you do research on the person. I didn't and ended up paying more money to get him better.
