The loss-prevention guy at our Shields (Boulevard) store turned around and told me all we need to do is tell the shoplifter to have a good day as they leave the store.

Okay, is this just me? :eyebrow:

What the hell is the point of having a loss-prevention guy if he's not going to actually try and prevent any loss????

Nope.

Also strange is that employees are restricted from calling police. That, by no means, could be considered "aggressive" or "going after" someone.

Every so often you see or read stories involving shop lifting and why businesses complain about their looses and admit that these looses are ultimatly passed on to (we) the consumer. So the logic to allow a criminal act in thier stores that by there own admission inflates the price we all pay for products escapes me.

I'd really like to see a Home Depot franchise protest this behavior by allowing a small parade of shoplifters on a slow route out into the parking lot in full view of God and everyone. You know, like waving out a dozen lawn tractors being driven out the door.

I just bought a bunch of stuff there a couple weeks ago. Think' I'll return it all, turn around, fill up a shopping cart with the same items, and roll on out the door....taunting the "loss prevention" personnel as I load up my trunk and drive off.

Actually....they have those trucks you can rent there....if you want to pay for it.

:yahoo:

Can someone drop me off at the Home Depot in Waldorf around 5 this evening?

What is this country coming to?

I used to work at Home Depot and this case is pretty extreme. The problem is that everytime somebody gets hurt in the store, it will cost that store $25,000. That $25,000 will be taken from the store profit that could be pass on to the associates in the form of bonuses. But, if we ever see a guy or gal leaving the store with an unpaid merchandize, they will be challenge but only the store manager or the Loss prevention guy can call the cops.

They need to take a lesson from Wal-mart. "Aggressive" hardly begins to describe their take on theft - I worked at one (not in St. Mary's) about 10 years ago. Their plainclothes guy caught about 2 people a day. If they struggled or ran, they recieved a quick trip to the floor. He once chased a guy all the way across the parking lot, across 8 lanes of traffic, through another parking lot into a field. Then dragged the guy all the way back.

More to the point for this discussion, employee participation in apprehending people was not forbidden, it was encouraged. If somebody fought the plainclothes guy, a call of "code 500" went out on the intercom, which meant all male employees run to the front to help.

Always hilarious to see 20 rednecks in blue vests running to help beat some shoplifter ass. They generally stopped resisting at that point!

Littigation fear. Bubba boosts a cordless drill and makes for the door. John Boy who works in harware sees him and grabs his arm. Bubba falls down and claims lifelong disability from injuries. Scheister lawyer takes Home Depot to court for Bubba claiming huge damages. Retarded jury who have been conditioned to look at big business as evil ATM machines finds Home Depot liable and awards Bubba $3M in damages. Lawyer keeps $1.5M, Bubba gets $1.5M and Home Depot goes :banghead: They pay it out of the "littigation fund" they have because they assume to be sued 500 times a year so they charge 3% more in every item to have the money to pay off law suits.

Could you pick me up some nice power tools and if you still have some room, I'd love to have some of that vinyl fencing too!
