Absolutely. So why does the NRA constantly encourage lawmakers to vote against it? Why do some members of republican party resist attempts to codify it into law?
The vast majority of laws pertaining to firearms are, and always have been, state prerogative. Maryland law requires someone to obtain a Handgun Qualification License in order to purchase a handgun.

When would you start that training? I suggested sixth grade, in all public schools that receive federal funding. What do you suggest?

I don't believe it should be a school run program and I don't believe it should be mandatory as most people will go their entire lives without handling a gun.

I believe it should be part of the license process to obtain a gun

I watched a news story a while ago. They put a fake gun on a playground to see how kids would react. The kids that were taught by there parents to tell an adult and don;t touch it, did just that. The kids without being taught picked up the gun and pointed it at other kids.

Most people will never grow up to be artists, but it was mandatory that I took an art class. More people don't grow up to be carpenters, but I had to take shop. Most people do have to balance a check book and deal with adult things but for some reason do not have to take a class on that basic stuff.

That makes sense

I'm pretty sure you can tell children " if you see a gun don't touch it and tell someone"

That is not the same as "in school training starting at 6th grade"

From the guy that can't even get basic firearm terminolgy correct...LOL. You earned "short Bus" all right...
Well considering we all learned basic math in school i'd be more embarrassed to be you right now. For many reasons. But specifically that you didn't know 42% was less than 58%

It shouldn't be mandatory as you said, just as sex ed isn't. But just like sex ed, being ignorant to the ramifications of misuse is on that person and/or their parents.

I was questioning your lame assertion that used the word "most". A little less than half... LOL..OK fine.. Say, you learn how to accurately describe firearms and their performance attributes yet?:huggy:

if only 42% of households had a gun and the majority of households include more than one person, it is reasonable to assume that not all of the people in those homes handle the firearms, it stands to reason that the number of people who actually use guns is somewhere less than 42%

which is all moot as 58% does represent "most". its simple maffff

So again you show that math is a struggle for you 58% is most.

Obviously. Which is why you see news stories every week about kids playing around and finding a parents gun and killing their friend, self, brother, sister.

See, now we are talking and debating and negotiating.

I've never once diagrammed a sentence or considered whether or not something was an adverb or an adjective in my entire life after school, yet I had to learn it. I have done taxes quarterly for a while, and I received only cursory (though more than they get today) education on that while in school.

So, maybe we should leave it up to the local school boards, and different areas would have different answers. I certainly don't think it would be the same for western Texas counties as it would be for some affluent CT county in terms of need - so maybe we just tell the federal government to get the hell out of having a Dept of Education and leave it up to local areas?

Can we agree on THAT, now that you've made the point for it with actual negotiation?

"every week" would imply this is at least 52 per year. Do you have a source for that, or are you being emotional and hyperbolic instead of factually-accurate again?
