Flathead insanity

I've always had a fondness for old engines and flatheads in particular. I'm building a "street rod" that has a Ford V-8 flatty in it. I've recently come across some amazing builds ....truly remarkable craftsmanship in evidence.

Is that a Lincoln-Zephyr V12?

Yes it is.

My own build is a 'plain ole" '49 V-8. But I would love to get my hands on a V-12.

I got a buddy confined to a wheelchair always bitchin' about how slow it is. I wonder what that would do for him? :tap:

it would probably be easier to get a Seagrave V-12 - which was originally a Pierce Arrow V-12 from 1935 / 38

considering they were in Fire Trucks into the 1970's IIRC

The GMC 702 is pretty interesting as well - 2 Buick V-6s stuck together

My first "hot rod" was a '49 Ford with a flat head V-8. Fortunately there was a guy near me that owned a junk yard and was into those motors and cars. He had an amazing selection of parts.

The Lincoln V-12 is quite small, physically....it's basically just a stretched V-8 from the same period. That Pierce engine is huge.

That said...one of the engines on my "gotta have someday" list is also rather large..the Ford GAA aluminum V-8. ;-)

DOHC, 4 Valve, Alum V-8
1100 CI 5.6 bore x 6 storke
1125 ft lbs of torque
525 HP

the carbs really are crap in this setup .... there is a guy with on he is putting in an F-150 2x 1000 CFM Carbs

I have put the specs into desktop dyno .... that engine makes as much torque as it is going to at idle ... it is all down hill

massive turbos really waken this motor up 2000 + Torque it just does not breath well enough

GAA - RayJay 300B.jpg

2 x 426 Hemi's and you still have cubes left for a couple of 2.2 Turbo 4 cylinders

As for the GMC Thunder V12 702,lets get the biggest myth out of the way first, these are not GMC351c.i. V6s "bolted together. The 702 has it's own block, but shares may internal components like the V6 cylinder heads valve covers and intake manifolds and carbs. Now for the Lincoln-Zephyr V12, why in the world would anyone want one of these boat anchors they are 1930's technology and weigh a ton.I got a friend down in N.C. that has 3 of the GMC engines and a 1946 Lincoln with the V12

Just for the "cool old school" factor, maybe. I love the old stuff. That's why this '49 8BA flathead V-8 is sitting in a '69 Bronco... ;-)

haven't you finished this yet
..... you had the motor in the rolling chassis 2 or 3 yrs ago

I want a ride when it is finished

I peck away on it when I can. Working on wiring now...and trying to finish up the dog house so I can mount stuff in the engine compartment.
