Flea and Tick Prevention

Crewdawg141

IYAMYAS!!!!!
Well it is that time of year again that my supply of preventative needs to be restocked. I have used Frontline and Advantix II in the past but I have been seriously considering natural versions of preventatives. Does anyone have any experiences good or bad regarding Biospot or Sentry Natural Defense?

The cost of the preventatives is not an issue, my issue is the toxins that I am putting on my dogs. I am aware that both of the products that I have used in the past work well, I am also aware that this season is expected to be really bad with ticks. I am afraid of the natural versions not protecting the dogs enough as my younger dog loves barrelling through the woods after squirrells. The old dog has reached lovable lump stage but occasionally feels his oats and partakes in the chase so keeping them out of the woods really is a losing battle on my end. Any thoughts or shared experiences is greatly appreciated.

I have used biospot... but you must be very careful if you have cats. this is close to advantix.. (main ingredient)...

I would not use the sentry.. its kinda like hartz :jameo:

any product that is a permithin based product will do a better job on ticks.

No cats unless you count the feral population that seems to be booming in my neighborhood. I can't seem to round them up as fast as they are coming.

This is a great thread. We will be getting the Fleas & Ticks from hell this season. I hate using the Poisons on my Animals, but you have to do it, or your house will be infested. I'm sure that Frequentflier will respond to this soon. I know that there are natural remedies out there, and am looking forward to reading about them.

I use to put liguid garlic drops in my dogs food, about 5 to 10 drops depending on their weight. It is sold in grocery stores and health food stores. It helped repel the ticks and would kill them off before they got under the skin.
I also used avon skin so soft bug repellant on them. Would spray them good after a bath and were dry enough so they wouldn't shake it off. I'd spray them good and kind of work it into the hair. Of course I also made sure I sprayed the yard with a good natural defense spray.
Hope this helps some.

I have a tube of advantix II that I've been afraid to put on my dog. He is at the bottom of the weight range for 11-20 pound dose, as he has just hit 11 pounds. What sorts of side affects could occur? Short term or long term health issues? I'd happily try an alternative as well, but I've already found a dog tick on him, so gotta do something soon.

Biospot has a new formula that is supposed to be cat and dog safe, and is supposed to be safer. like frontline on a rat, its lethal dose is 90 times, with biospots new ingredient it would be like 30,000 times given for a lethal dose to occur. its in their new funny looking applicator. It starts with an E, i just cant remember how to spell it
