Flea control for homes in the woods?

I am the one looking for a puppy for my 6 year old (and me too! ) We are moving to a new house in June that is on 2 acres and is very wooded. This will be a brand new house and my husband is concerned about flea control. What do you use to treat the yard and the dog to control fleas? He had a bad experience with a very bad flea problem with his dog as a child.

When flea season hits I use my gal sprayer and mix the correct amount of Malathion with water and spray away. Keep kids and pets off the yard until dry. Usually spray in the morning when the grass is still wet. Keeps the fleas and other insects away. For bigger yards get Ortho Dial a Spray. Hooks to your garden hose, put Malathion in the attached jar and dial in the amount. It has settings per oz.
