A kid at one of the local middle or high schools has been charged with a felony because he....

...told his friends he had a gun in his backpack, and when he went to "pull it out" he set off some firecrackers to scare them.

Now, our system around here is pretty reasonable and not overwhelmed, which means judges can look at cases individually and not just rubber stamp stuff to get it off their plate. So I'm guessing the charge is a scare tactic, he'll receive a stern talking to, and the charges will be dropped.

Not gonna lie, when I heard this on the news I laughed out loud because this is absolutely something you could see some dumbass teenage boy doing as a prank. Back in my day the cops wouldn't have gotten involved; he'd have been sent to the Principal and had lunch detention or something.

Black Cats were the best firecrackers. Are they still around?
I'm sure they are. Red Devil and Cherry Bomb aren't bad, but separated, they don't compare to Black Cats. You basically have to light the whole pack.

The cherry bombs in those days would take out a ,ailbox with ease, and a quarter stick would take out a 55 gallon drum.
Can you imagine those in the hands of kids today? I know some that I would trust, but there's a LOT of them out there that couldn't be trusted with a roll of caps.

I just happen to be in Florida right now. I went down to see some friends I used to work with.
I can tell you it's my last trip down. Jacksonville I=95 was a horror all jammed up rt 4 west terrible it was---go 75 and get in a jam up and a 5 mile back up, Not once but several time, I -75 south and north back ups for 5 miles at 15 to 20 and then balls to the wall for 20 miles and the next back up. The pavement was worn through to the layer under it in places pot holes everywhere .
The roads in terrible shape, made Maryland roads look good. Not backroads mind you but the freeways. They don't need speed cops because half of the time you are going 20 MPH or stopped. Traffic everywhere, cutting in and out like maniacs. The motelS think nothing of $200 A NIGHT. $289 for a Comfort Inn at the Villages,

My fiancé has a thing for SC, so I don't know if I'll ever drive to Florida again, but I DO have a brother in Melbourne that I hope to visit in the next couple of years. Safe travels! ✝️

Ugh, Jax is a nightmare - I hate big cities.

I think the closest I got to road rage was flying into Ft. Lauderdale and driving to Key Largo.....during rush hour. What a mess.
