MIAMI - The man responsible for a crash that left an 83-year-old woman trapped in a swamp for three days has been arrested on charges of drunken driving.
Scott Andrew Campbell, 24, had been sentenced to five years of probation after his car rammed a Toyota Tercel driven by Tillie Tooter in 2000.
Tooter's car fell off a bridge and into a tangle of trees that held her suspended above the water of a swamp for three days. She survived on a cough drop, a peppermint, chewing gum and rain water. Tooter was rescued when a teenager picking up trash glanced over the bridge railing and saw her looking up at him.
In the latest incident, Campbell was arrested Dec. 28 for allegedly driving erratically in Miami-Dade County. His attorney, Yale Galanter, said his client was not intoxicated or impaired when he was pulled over.
