I've been taking the 5 weight out recently. I have a caddis tied on under a strike indicator. So far I've gotten quite a few panfish to fall for my fake. I missed the spring trout fishing in Maryland, but enjoy using the long pole when weather permits. Once the weather warms up a bit more I'll use more poppers and floating flies for panfish.
I did manage a few rockfish at goose creek with a clouser minnow years ago. The 5 weight doesn't have enough backbone if I was to hook into a 20+ inch fish. It's still fun to get the near legal stripers on a fly.
The most fun I have is later in the summer using a madam X. Large bluegills can't pass it up. I get a lot of fish on consecutive casts.
