Food Allergy Specialists

Does anyone know of any food allergy/food intolerance specialists? Local or within the DC metro area......All local allergy specialists I'm finding only seem to specialize in airborne/seasonal allergies.

For animals or people? There's a food allergy support group that meets at St. Mary's Hospital.

Dr. Woods at John Hopkins is a food allergy specialist. He has food allergies himself. My grandson sees him. The Food Allergies Network website has lots of information.

We used Dr. Joanne Domson
Pembrooke center in Waldorf
She was very professional and kind.

She had set days for each office.
Our son was tested at 2, has outgrown his food allergies too.
He was allergic to eggs, shellfish, chocolate, soy, dust and the family cat he adored more than anything else. Kitty stayed. There were no injections, we tried benydryll and claritan but we eventually didn't need them. He'll be 8 soon.

Allergy shots for food allergies? I was under the impression that you could not get shots for food allergies only airborne allergies.

Just a little more background....my husband was diagnosed with food allergies by our family doctor. He is allergic to wheat, corn, soy, and peanuts. He has been avoiding all of these foods (it's crazy how many different names there are for wheat, corn, soy...) which has been a challenge. Anyways, he has been very good about what he eats, but he is still having problems. I think if we follow up with a "true" specialist we may be able to find out some more info.....Thank you to the folks who have referred specialists.

So can you eat shellfish now? I would love to be able to eat crabs again.

NO, I can not eat shellfish still. And just to clarify my previous post. I go to Dr. Simlote to get allergy shots for airborne allergies as well as my son also. You can not get allergy shots for food allergies or any type of chemical allergy. I have a severe nickel allergy also, that I can not get a shot for. Just have to eliminate the culprit to avoid the allergic reaction.
