If the bread is correctly thawed, proofed, baked and holding times are enforced, they actually are a foot long. I think the holding time was 2 hours for baked bread. Any longer than that, the bread starts to dry out and shrink. The forms they are proofed and baked in are 12 inches.

Two New Jersey men sued Subway this week, claiming the world's biggest fast-food chain has been shorting them by selling so-called footlong sandwiches that measure a bit less than 12 inches.

The suit, filed Tuesday in Superior Court in Mount Holly, may be the first legal filing aimed at the sandwich shops after an embarrassment went viral last week when someone posted a photo of a footlong and a ruler on the company's Facebook page to show that the sandwich was not as long as advertised.

My family owns a sub/pizza shop..and we had a guy that took orders that stuttered ... someone comes in and he stuttered as well and asked "how lo lo lo lo long are your 6 in 6 inch subs"

the guy that worked there responds and says " they are si, si si six inches long go god damnit" and rolled his eyes at the customer..

the customer took offense to him stuttering and thought he was making fun of him and they started arguing, stuttering back and forth... I was rollin!! Once they both figured out they both stuttered, they laughed and the customer came in all the time to talk, err stutter with Tom
