Growing up in New Jersey, you would see these white slips of paper with some college football games and all the pro games listed for that week. They listed the points that the underdog team would get to make the betting a little more difficult. My dad would bring them home from work. Then me and my brother would pick all the games to see who got the most winning picks.
I saw these all the time growing up. Later in high school, some of the kids would take bets from our classmates. Once 1 of the kids got busted by the school with a pocket full of singles and a bunch of betting slips.
