Growing up in New Jersey, you would see these white slips of paper with some college football games and all the pro games listed for that week. They listed the points that the underdog team would get to make the betting a little more difficult. My dad would bring them home from work. Then me and my brother would pick all the games to see who got the most winning picks.

I saw these all the time growing up. Later in high school, some of the kids would take bets from our classmates. Once 1 of the kids got busted by the school with a pocket full of singles and a bunch of betting slips.

I never see those things any more. I don't know if it was just a New Jersey thing or not. Vrai says she doesn't recall them when she was in school.

Here's sort of what they looked like. The ones I saw only had the left side. You didn't put your name on it. You kept the top half and gave the filled out bottom half to the bookie. Anyone else remember these?

Today there are so many Casinos that have sports beting rooms, our local one is called Tje Book.
Sit and eat and have drinks, its a busy place most nights when ive walked by.
Its been years since ive heard anyone talk about calling a bookie, out here is so much Charity Gaming with Tip Boards and tear offs as it is. Almost all the bars have pull tabs....

Lived with a bookie(high school friend) in the 70s, he would buy 500 slips for $20 and usually distributed and collected all of them. Lucrative biz along with taking bets on NFL games. Was never busted, had a heart attack and died about 6 years ago, He owned a house in Bowie, a house and 2 clubs/bars in Rio. He adored South American women, it was nothing for him in the early to mid 80s to fly to Rio for the weekend.

Haven't seen one of those pick-em slips in years.
