thats Bernie for ya. He is feeing us to death.... and then penalizing us for not passing his increase.

I seriously think we need to get the board to remove him.

also, for the 'new' site i think we should have the agendga, minutes and voting record for each board member available so that we can decide who is really working for us.
For all those who accus... 08-22-2007 10:42 AM the board voted for the increase, blame them

to the karma giver, please detail this for me, if that is the case i will put the blame on them. But as far as i know, the MEMBERSHIP VOTED DOWN ALL proposed fee increases and additions. WHY would the board vote to do something that was basically put to a vote for the membership?

Anybody?

I have a feeling this was more of the GM executive decision making, ala the COLA, but i could be wrong.

Wow I got Red Karma from someone saying "she has you snowed" Nice :)

Care to add to it and tell me how/why she has me snowed?
Oh I love that... Who are they talking about me or Becky? Its a wonder how they hide behind the "Karma".. If they gave me good or bad, I could care less... I'm not in a popularity contest... Thats why I've turned mine off!

Sorry you got a red Karma though...

I will tell you the board was not involved in this. This was a decision made in admin. Not at the board table.

MEETING IS AT 7PM.
There was some confusion over this. And you can blame me, I am the secretary and I was the one that sent an email for 7pm. Sorry about that!

Are you at the Cove Point Fields tonight or the ones down there by southern middle? Cove Point, I use to leave right about 15 minutes before hand. From southern, it was 20....

I just hope it doesn't get called off at the last minute.. :smack:
And I'm hoping that we can open up the floor so we can get some opinions from you guys. Its weird looking forward to someone you don't know or don't think you've ever met! LOL

I guess now I know what a "blind date" would be like! :lmao:

Oh come to think of it, I guess the board did do that when our Past President made a motion to approve the Budget when I was absent....The way I understood this, He made the motion, it was seconded and it passed. It basically gave them carte blanche to spend within the line items listed...

That included the server which by the way was one of those on the list for removal if the M&O increase failed. Which is one of the issues I have. It still showed up on the modified one to... But I think that may the only item that continues to show up for approval that was in that list, although I'd have to go back to my notes to be sure.

I've spoken with Various IT people and hear the same thing from everyone, even my husband. I'd love to be able to take his word, afterall he is an IT and has been since before he retired...(USMC for those wondering) But I can't make a decision with only one opinion even if it mirrors what everyone else has told me..

Just and FYI I created a Demo Site for CRE just to show June what all is possible and doesnt take a long time. I put in forums, a real Calendar System, Document section for download and it has a username/login section so that only members of CRE could get in if need be. This a fully database driven site.

WOW what can I say, this could be the website itself from what I see and quite personally I love it!

You guys have got to take a few minutes and check it out!

Its an ameninity and I too felt the same way about the airport but just because I don't use it doesnt mean I can't. Sealing and Paving was needed in order to keep it open and is used in case of emergencies by the State Police and such. Except for the sealing and paving the users mow the grass and one home owner has been paying the electric to the runway and such for the past soo many years because they are hooked to his house LOL.

GM hire prosess!

Becky, Why not tell all about how the board hired the GM?

Out of the many, many local resumes, the board courted
Bernie. An out of state resident with no skin in the game,
so to speak. I believe Mass or Maine? You guys even paid
to have him come down for an interview, over a couple
of thousand? Then offer him more perks. Plus $100,000
per year!

Tell us why the board did not hire locally. A Calvert County
resident would have been more knowledgeable about local
issues and more importantly know about the issues facing
CRE.

Please...do tell!

The server meeting was very informative last night. I spoke to the IT guy about their plans and what they were purchasing. The 12k was not just for a server but for a server, software, client access licenses, tape backup drive, and a battery back ups. The server is a little overkill but nothing major. Come to find out they already have the contract for new software to replace the current software that handles each property account in the community. But is seems as though there was never a business plan written to explain all of this stuff so people have questions and forget I'm sure discussions in the past. So hopefully there will be a plan drawn up to explain the new software why it is needed and its hardware requirements so that way everyone is on the same page.

It was very nice meeting everyone.

Thank you for coming to the meeting... I would hope that you would help with the process of bringing our IT plan about. I would also hope that the Board can count our your input about the IT decisions over the next few weeks.

Our accounting office is at a standstill for some reason. According to our IT guy and the GM we have to upgrade the server or correct the data management plan quickly to get back in action. the Association has been heavily depending on our IT guy for at least the last eight years. Perhaps a fresh outlook or some fresh ideas might breath some sustainable life into the system we already own while a new long range data plan is written and properly financed.

I spoke with the IT guy that I know today. I gave him the GM's phone number and asked him to contact the GM. Maybe I should ask him to check into this forum. :howdy:

I would love to hear that we could make some adjustments this year to get the current server working for a few more months, while great IT minds get together and write a long term plan for CRE, and then next year the membership could make a knowledgeable decision to invest in the future.

Wouldn't that be awesome :buddies: :buddies:

Becky...you skipped a post.

Becky...

I noticed how you conveniently skipped past my post.

Also could you tell us why the last GM was being paid
somewhere around $60,000-$65,000, yet the board
thought paying the current GM $100,000 was better?

Also, that you paid for the GM's moving expenses, from
"out of state"!

The forum is waiting...

P.S. Could this be why services had to be cut? To fund
his paycheck? $1923 per week, before taxes.

CalCo - you aren't being fair. Becky can't discuss that because of the NDA all BoD members have to sign.
Well, NDA or not, when a large portion of the POACRE budget goes
to one person I feel we have a right to know.
We know the pay of CEO's, CFO's, etc. of corporations and their stock
options, why can't we know the salary of the highest paid person of POACRE?,
THAT WE PAY FOR! And the reasons behind it.
We know the pay of our County Commissioners, administrators and the like.

Does he have a magic wand to miraculously fix all the problems of CRE?
To merit that kind of pay and benefits. By the way, he was given a contract.
The board must pay him for what, Becky,? 2-3 years. Short of him doing
something egregious, he can't be fired. And if the board does decide to let
him go, for what ever reason, the Board has to buy out his contract.
Cool huh? Does anyone here have a job like that?

Since there is an NDA, maybe..., maybe she can tell us why the Board
hired out of County/State.
Why pay for his transportation to a job interview?
Why such a large, non-discloseable, salary? Doesn't have to verify
it, just explain it.

What were wrong with the many, many, many candidates that applied
for the GM position that lived in the County and the many that lived
within CRE itself?

Becky, or any other Board member, the forum is waiting.

CalCo - all good questions. You should come to the next meeting and ask Ed Harvey since he was the President of the BoD at that time.

Here's a question for you Calco...

I must confess, I cannot discuss the hiring of the General Manager but not for the obvious reasons that you or any of the others would guess.

You see... I put my resume in for the position of General Manager. I wanted to work for the Association full time. I felt I have the talent and experience to manage the association and I wanted to work to get the fuel tax income for the Association.

Since I was a candidate, I was not included in the negotiations or the interviews. I haven't seen the General Manager's resume to this date. His proposed contract was read to me... and I really don't comprehend things unless I read them myself or write them down for myself [that's why you see me taking me notes at meetings].

So you appear to have more information on this matter than I do. I can neither confirm or deny the specifics of your information because I have never seen the resume or the contract. Of course if I had seen it, I would not be able to discuss it in this forum because of the non- disclosure as well.

Which brings me to the question for you.... Where did you get your information? Did someone breach the General Manager's right to privacy?

As for your general question about the right to know the salary of the CFO or CEO of the corporation... I could speak to that.

If the membership would like to have that information, it would require a change in the governing documents. This is not something that can be done overnight but it is something that any member could cause to happen.

I would suggest that you read the governing documents. [After being the target of 2 petitions I hope you will understand my reluctance to take this matter on myself....] You will need to uncover which document that that specifically discusses the privacy matter. If it is the Covenants, you can change it this year... with a 51% vote of the membership.... If it is the bylaws... a majority of the membership vote is all that is required for a change... if it is in the Policies & Procedures, then that can be changed by the Board and Legal Counsel.

After the change, then the Non-disclosure would have to be changed, and I still would not be able to discuss this particular matter but there are a few people on the board how were on the previous board. Richard Navickas, for instance, was not only on the board but he was on the search committee. He found Bernie and brought him here. Oh, and Ed Harvey would know too...

Like I said... I'm so sorry... I can't help you... and by the way... I did send you a note in your karma saying that it would be inappropriate for me to discuss it. I hope you understand why now. I have wasted everyone's time :huggy:

Becky was on the Board as well!

I want Becky to answer these questions. She is always here in the forum
spreading her opinions on this or that, pushing for this or that...

It's all mostly one sided for her, about her plans and ideas. Well, now
I want it to be one sided for me. I want her to answer these questions
here for all to see, not just at "the next meeting."

I want it openly discussed for all to see and for all to be informed before
they attend the next meeting. Then for questions not answerable here,
to be asked and answered at the next meeting. I want full disclosure here
and now to the extent possible.

I want Becky to answer. Or...is she scared to delve into this arena?

Ok then, scratch some of the previous comments.
Just read Becky's post. Need to think a moment.
