At least the boat ramp and replacement of some "amenities" is what I thought our dues were for. However, the Haunted Halloween thing at the campground sounds fun - don't let it interfere with AnnMarie Gardens thing (people with tables are there until about 4). What would volunteers do there? A Haunted Trail type thing? Could we scare the bejeebees out of some kids? Teenagers to volunteer for it as well?
Oh I love that you guys are already starting to plan this event!
THANK YOU! Thank you for getting involved!

And yes DBQuad, you are correct in that our dues were suppose to pay for those things. It seems to me that our dues have been applied to what someones idea is of more important things which is why we spent so much money cleaning and revamping those amenities which were neglected for so long....I think our Board is more concerned about knowing what the members want.. At least most of us are....

As for moving the forum... We dont' really have to move anything, Just start a new one under southern Maryland.. I will put it up and you guys feel free to pick one! LOL

Why not change the backgroung color to our CRE blue on that portal and put it on our server? No one ever said you couldnt do an upgrade to the current page :) we can direct everyone over there then.

Other wise I guess I have to add it to the ever growing list of motions for Tuesday night. I really dont think it requies a board vote though or just throw up the portal behind the index and link off of it if these any concern about a vote.

I was more inclined to turn the other into the website! I can do this, with the help of Fastcarspeed! But I just want to make sure that was his intention when he showed it to me! LOL

I'm not sure it belongs in this part of the forums any longer unless we consider ourselves as campaigning for next year's election.... I hate to move the forum tho because we seem to be getting something accomplished and I'm not sure everyone would find a new location....

That being said... I had a thought....

We have a lot of companies that make a lot of money off of CRE.... builders, realtors, trash companies, the ice cream ladies, the paving companies, the tree trimmers, the day care centers, the local grocery stores, the local pizza delivery stores, transportation companies, even comcast, walmart, kmart and the list goes on and on and on.... after all we have 3900 homes....

Chesapeake Ranch Estates has certain needs right now...

We need a plan for our server

We need volunteers for our Haunted Halloween

We need volunteers and supplies for our shelters for the Campgrounds

We need to put fountains in our lake and replace the steps down to the lake before a baby picks up a nasty splinter

We need to replace our boat ramp

We need some landscaping

Just to mention a few things....

Up until now we have never required or even asked our venders or home based businesses to come forward.... what if we were to go into the community and ask them to sponsor these and other efforts... tap into these resources.... we must have plenty of geeks, carpenters, and I know we have very talented small business owners in the community as well.... where are they?

Sponsorship could be a good thing for the community.... right?

I'm not suggesting that a vender or home business would have to take on a major project out of their own pocket in order to do business in CRE...

I think what I'm suggesting is the formation of partnerships that will create good relationships for both sides....

The association would not have been able to do this in the beginning because there were only a few homes and this was to be a retirement community... but now there are 3900 homes and we are a thriving community teetering on being our own little town... IMO....it's time we started looking like one and acting like one....
I am really concerned about the water quality on the lake, driving by it looks like a big mud whole, not something I want to play in. No sense gussying up the outside if it will soon be unusable, we really need to generate some cash and get some oxygen in it, and get that bottom turned up. I was thinking the other day, if we should be so bold as to aproach Terris husband Brian to see if his band would do another benifit. I have an aquaintance in two bands (dont ask) that may participate as well. Another acquaintance John also sings country to pre-recorded music and is really good.

Were running out of summer though. I was orignally thinking about this for the campgrounds but the lake is in much more need. My concern is that even if its adverstised correctly we couldnt generate enough to do anything with. I am guessing 1500.00 at best.

We have the Clam Project going on.. They have had some pretty positive results. I think it would be a matter of getting them to move a little faster and possibly having some type of fundraiser to help get it jump started? At least I'm assuming thats where you were going with the bands...?

I was at Seven Springs a couple weeks ago... they use the fountains and a piping system to circulate their lakes and it is amazing how great the water looks... It won't hurt the clam project and we need to get the lakes and ponds cleaned up....

What does the membership think???? We should be asking them....

Maybe Don could put up a link... and we could get a couple of research slot... but we're going to need money either way....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then we also need reimbursement grants....

....
Now that would be cool.. But the costs?
And then the people trying to swim in the lake with the piping..
I'm sure it could be done and maybe its something the members would want looked into!

I think we need to focus on getting things like this done but we need to prioritize them so we don't lose sight of what needs to be done...

Actually I was thinking aeration, something to put mass amounts of oxygen into the water and stir it. The clam project although its good, is a lot like our STD for roads, were it would take 40 years before all the roads could be paved. Do we really have that long?
Tony has identified grants, I had given the board/GM the information of an experienced grant writer that volunteered his services whether the information ever was passed or the grants are being pursued I don’t know. Speaking about communications breakdowns I wonder if the committees ever got the word to submit their membership list? Kermit was there, so I am sure roads will be prepared I hope!

How about tomorrow. I've been on the computer transcribing tapes for most of the morning and plan on an evening out alone. Nice quiet kind of dinner! I'm still debating on changing clothes. I know if I go the way I am, I will be left alone! LOL Will catch up with you in the morning on the forum so you and I will know when to catch up!

Why should I be thrilled?

When we finally get to a point where we are talking everyone moves!

Where did you go?:pete:

I still have questions!

How much better of are we now than we were a year ago?
Has Bernie Howe done anything he was supposed to do when he was hired?
So we didn't give the rate increase, but why aren't we getting any services?
I don't see any security at the beaches.
I don't see any maintenance.
I don't see any return for my M&O money.
I hear we still have a 47 page budget that may or may not be in balance and I hear the Board still has questions. Is that true?
I hear we may or may not need a server and we definitely need some kind of plan. Is that true? And it it's true what kind of plan?
Someone said Bernie makes $100,000 a year. If that's so and I don't want a manager that makes that much, is there anything I can do to get him out of there?
What are we doing about all those lots that Becky found that we are paying all those taxes on?

I still have questions! Where did you go??????? :pete:

Okay, I'm going to attempt to answer some of your questions..
I would say we are probably in the same position as we were before with some exceptions...We have been working on some of the things you have addressed.

Now we understand more regarding the server, thanks to Fastcarspeed (and he's volunteering his time as well), regarding the server...we have them working together to determine the needs as well as the associated costs involved. The server and costs were not addressed in this manner before.
But if we end up spending that money, we are at least going to get it done the right way and get our moneys worth!

As for the budget, we are still keeping an eye on that and because it was approved by the board, that is about all we can do with it.

The lots, I'm not sure but If memory serves correctly we turned that over to facilities and finance to get more information regarding the options available to us.

It would be much easier if we could somehow get you to come to one meeting a month. It doesn't matter if its a board meeting or committee meeting, but we can't do this alone. Part of the problem is you have a handful of people that are involved, because of this most of the things are based on information provided by them. Because of this, You have no voice with the exception of some of us that do take the time to try staying in contact with you....

Our Board President is even making an attempt to get more meetings just for the membership. But for anything to come of these, we need attendance... We need a quorum... So, when you see a membership meeting, at least come. If we don't get the quorum the only thing we can do is keep trying...

We are not moving anything just yet. I will be addressing doing this at our next meeting. I'm hoping that it will be a thumbs up. Look for Fastcarspeed post and he has posted a link to the demo site that we are planning to use. I'm hoping that we can set rules, no name calling, no naming names and just no nastiness in general. I'm hoping that it will allow members to finally come together and work together.

It happened the evening that I took my son to a Scout meeting. The boys were doing last minute preparations for a trip they planned to Hawaii, and my husband had to work so I had to go..

The Past President made the motion and it was approved but amended to include within the line items listed. Sorry, I just couldn't be there and then I was pretty upset over it all when I heard. I still don't think it was legal based the fact that he is an Ipso Facto member of the board for the first three months. Someone thinks that the Ex-Officio means the same thing but I do not believe that it does otherwise why bother to use both terms? The only reason I have not requested a legal opinion is because it will cost us more money and we are all keeping a close eye on things. And we are trying to keep our expenditures down until we have a clearer picture....

And if you might be wondering...
The boys had a great time. They were there for two weeks and experienced fires, volcano eruptions, sunami warnings and even a hurricane warning! My son said simply that it was just to dangerous to ever live there. LOL He preferred their Alaska trip!

We havent aproved the budget yet, we voted to freeze all spending and the night you were not there Ed made his motion to broaden the scope of the spending from just salaries and utilities. The FY 08 Budget they are going to vote on Tuesday the 4th. In a finance meeting we cut 26K out of it and then were sand bagged at the end of the night when Bernie had Instructed Carol to ad 28K in at the very end for 4 more employees for security. How were getting 4 people for 28K even part time makes no sense with salaries much less bennifits! As to the legal opinon, Eds Voting is included on a list of 5 things that Chris was taking to legal and we should find out Tuesday if Ed can vote or make motions, I just hope its at the begining not at the end of the night.
This budget thing ought to get things heated up staff/finanance expect it to go through, unless the 28K comes out I am not voting on it. Then it still needs to be presented to the membership.
