Hi All...... I know Enfamil and Similac are the 2 big name brands then Nestle to follow. Does anyone use the Generic brands (Family Choice from WalMart or Target Brand)?? They seem to have same ingredients with the same amounts and even the DHA/ARA at a fraction of the price. I would appreciate any thoughts! Thanks!!

If the ingredients and dha/ara match use them. I do for the grand babies. Save the money for their education. Same goes for diapers. I use the store brand's.

When the kid was like 6 months or so I switched to the Target brand of the Prosobee. The soy Enfamil. It was the same thing. My kid didn't notice a difference and neither did I. He has reflux badly and it didn't help but it didn't make it worse either.

:yeahthat:

Except I'm picky on diapers. The kids skin is sensative. Right now I use the Huggies Natural Curve or some crap like that.

I used Target Brand that is just like Enfamil and have no problem. If you want to save money, then go with the Walmart or Target Brand. If not, then go with the Enfamil, Similac, or Nestle.

As long your baby doesn't complain, it's fine. If the baby "complain", you'll have to stick with the one the baby likes.

You could save a lot of money if you went with Boobs brand milk :yay:

Not everybody can breastfeed. Some women I know can not make any milk and she wanted to breastfeed, but her boobs would not make milk.

Please do not "judge" mothers for her choices/decisions to breastfeed or use forumla method because everybody have thier "reasons".

I switched from Enfamil to Carnation and had friends that used Family Choice.
My doctor told me not to but we did it anyway because of cost.
Our kids are all healthy and happy.
Just keep close watch the first time and if all goes well then :cartwheel to saving money!

I used the store brands after I quit nursing. They worked fine.

Yep, except in the beginning I had all those coupons so I used them and the free samples up first then went to store brand. Just don't switch the "type." As long as you go soy to soy and lipil to lipil and lactose-free to lactose-free and so on, you should be a-ok! Diapers are the same too, more children are allergic to Pampers due to their fragrance and chemistry then they are to store brands, and Huggies tabs rip right off. I used to prefer Safeway brand oddly enough (their wipes too), but they switched and now I don't like them. So, as long as your kid doesn't have any allergies or ill-effects, go for it!

As long as the ingredients are the same in the store brand formula as they are in the name brands, than it's fine. But as far as diapers go, I always go with name brand diapers. My son breaks out in a rash if I use the cheap ones. they don't absorb as well and cause him to have more moisture. I always use pampers. I have never tried the target brand, but i know, parents choice(walmart brand) diapers suck!

Starting Over
I got off pretty cheap with formula, my youngest had really bad milk allergies. He was allergic to all formula and ended up having to drink goats milk. That was some stinky milk and the down fall, I had to add folic acid. Finding a pharmacy that would sell it was a chore.

I use parent's choice. Get the correct size (switch up as soon as you can) and they're fine as long as you put 'em on right. Target on the other hand, you couldn't pay me to use. As for the rash, if the little is prone to it, you should be using the cream every time and switching the diapers often, not just when they're about to explode from fullness. Would you want to sit in pee longer than you had to?
