Ubi bene ibi patria
"Since 1996 the West River-based USS Forrestal Museum group has been working to preserve the historic aircraft carrier as a floating museum.
But the Navy announced last week that the Forrestal is now included on a list of ships scheduled to be sunk in the next five years.
The Forrestal was commissioned in 1955 and was the Navy’s first ‘‘super carrier,” the first ship designed from the keel up to support jet-powered aircraft. The Forrestal served the Navy for 38 years before its 1993 decommissioning.
Recent efforts to save the Forrestal include identifying a location to berth the carrier in Maryland, near Fort McHenry in Baltimore."
