I was contacted by an organization called homewoodsrescue.com . They're looking for foster homes for a bunch of dogs they rescued from a puppymill in MO. Anyone ever foster a dog and knows how that works? :howdy:

Bc-

I just finish fostering a mama and 10 puppies! She had 12, unfortunately 2 didn't make it out of Animal Control when I got the call from my local Humane Society...I got mama, and the pups when they were 3 days old.
Having 5 dogs I don't foster very often-unless it is an emergency. It is a very rewarding and fulfilling thing to do-it's tough sometimes to give the animal up but knowing their are going to a “forever home” is a reward in itself.
The Humane Society provides food; I provide the shelter, care and lots of love.
Go for it! :yay:

Here's a question....what about Vet fees or medical expenses???? I'm going to look into it more before I leap! I have a tendancy to jump to quickly, especially when it comes to an animal in need so I want to make sure I have all the information! This rescue organization is on the Eastern Shore, so I'd have to make a trip which would be fine but again I want to know all the ins and outs of being a foster mom!!!

THANKS! :howdy:

I have fostered many dogs.

The agency should be responsible for the vet fees. Since they are on the eastern shore, I would double check about taking down here for vet appts, or whether you would have to go up there.

It is very rewarding to do fostering. I also love puppies. :)

I fostered too and would do it again. It was wonderful and they provided food as well as medical treatment, Frontline, etc. Go for it!!! Very rewarding.

Foster care needed

If you would like to try fostering locally, The St. Mary's Animal Welfare League (SMAWL) is always looking for foster homes we are St. Mary County, MD. SMAWL takes care of Vet care, food and what every is needed.

If you are interested in possibly fostering an animal with SMAWL, please send me a PM and I will send you an application. Please know that just because you have completed an application, you are not committed to fostering for SMAWL. The application ensures that if a suitable foster animal becomes available, we can contact you to offer you an opportunity to foster. Feel free to include any limitations you may have when fostering (to include; breeds, size, temperament, dates available, etc)---anything that assist us in matching acceptable placement for our animals. SMAWL will be responsible for all medical care. We will reimburse foster families for food, if requested by the foster family.

I foster, too. My rescue pays for the vetting, hw preventative, tick preventative and will pay for the food too, if necessary. They will also pay for obedience training, etc. if those kind of things are needed. My rescue is located in Chesapeake, VA and I do the vetting at Well Pet Clinic. My rescue's credit card # is on file with Well Pet. We are always looking for foster homes.
