Found dog running around Waldorf

This dog has been running around Huntington Circle in Waldorf for weeks now. It's very standoffish and runs when you try to get close. My parents have been leaving food out for it and letting it sleep on their screened in back porch when it wants to. We don't know if it's lost or a stray but contact me if you know any info as to who it belongs to. Thanks!!!

You aren't doing it any favors by not calling Animal Control.

Sunday afternoon saw 4 police cars and Animal Control at the intersection of Billingsley Road and St. Charles Pkwy. Looked like they were trying to surround something in the small wooded area on the corner. Not sure what they were after.

Actually if they are feeding and providing a place to sleep while looking for the owners they may be doing more good than calling Animal Control. Once there if it's not picked up within a few days most likely will be put down due to crowding. Especially if it is timid as most people will overlook it if they're looking to adopt.

I found a dog that was abandoned at a gas station. Was very timid and injured. People at the nearby businesses were stopping by feeding him. Once he learned to trust me he was a very friendly dog and has a wonderful new home now. I know this isn't always the outcome but I'm willing to give it a try.

Its not freezing out either - let me have you run around in the freezing cold for a few days and eat some left over food occasionally left out by a few peeps and see how you do?

Great pictures. Did they take them to Humane Society and Tri-County Shelter? They could have them post the pictures on their boards and leave their number in case the owner stops in.

Looks like he has quite a coat on him and he sleeping in a screened-in porch and getting food and water. Seems like he's in a better situation than the dogs I see tied to a tree and sleeping on the ground actually "owned" by someone.

Sorry but I don't see in this statement "My parents have been leaving food out for it and letting it sleep on their screened in back porch when it wants to." that it is some "left over food occasionally" left out by a few peeps. Maybe they are buying the food intentionally to feed it and leave it out daily.

I know to ignore the negative comments... it's kind of a double edged sword here. If they turn it into the animal shelter they feel it will be put down, so they are trying their best to find the owners, feed/water it and give it a place to stay out of the weather. It only allows them to get so close before it runs off. I just got the pictures, I guess when I get a chance I'll try to post them up at the animal shelters.

Remember that when the dog runs off and gets hit by a car, or shot, or bites a kid.

If you can't confine it and properly care for it you do it no favors.

But then, half the people here can't keep their OWN dogs confined... so....

Negative comments??

I'm concerned for the DOG.

Parasites. Wild animals. Other strays fighting over territory. Cars. Polluted / poisoned water. The dog is NOT staying with them, it runs off, you say. So it's a fed stray.
It's still stray, and still wandering about.

And he's afraid. If he gets cornered and bites someone in the neighborhood out of fear?

There are so many things that can go wrong here... But whatever.

Do as you (or your parents) see fit.

Yeah, I saw this dog too.. I live a couple doors up from your mom and dad. I am worried about this dog too. Zoie and daily keep barking at it and im not sure if this dog has rabies or not. I was going to call animal control for it, but wasnt sure is someone in the court got another dog.

Yes, I know all of these are possibilities although I don't think this dog will bite a kid if it's running from people and it's been in the area for weeks now. Best case would be for ALL dogs/cats to have the best homes and be loved. However, we know this is not the case. Probably was abandoned or if it lived in the area it would have found his way home by now. I still believe in trying to give the dog the best chance and I don't believe that by having Animal Control pick it up is the best option right now. It is getting food and shelter. Doesn't look skinny or hurt. What would be it's chance at the shelter? Probably next to none! Scared dog in a strange place would probably fail its temperment test, placed in the section for rescue groups only (and we know they are beyond full) for a few days and then put down. And possibly another dog would have to be put down when it is brought in if there wasn't an empty run to make room for this one. So two die.

All around it's sad that people take such low regard for the animals. I pass a small dog tied to a tree with a doghouse everyday and see it lying in the snow, rain, etc. People walking around in the yard with the dog straining against the rope, wagging its tail, looking for some attention and everyone walks by without a glance. Of course since it has a dog house there isn't anything Animal Control can do...

That's so sad Tes218. My dog is like a child, very spoiled and I try to do all I can for her no matter what the cost. I don't know why people have dogs when they really don't want much to do with them. :(

Yeah, I mean it does look healthy like someone besides my parents have been feeding it, fur doesn't appear to be that dirty and it seemed healthy from a distance when I saw it yesterday. I think my mom hasn't called because if they put the dog down it would bother her, so she's hoping she can find who it belongs to.

I think I'd find a way to make that particular dog disappear from that yard. THAT, by far, is the sadist way for a dog to live. Dogs are pack animals and to chain them up away from all contact is just plain abuse in my book!

Don't think I haven't had that thought.... Problem is he is tied in the front of the house on a road with no shoulders...still...

I think your Parent's are doing the right thing by giving the little guy food. Although something to think about, in the event it is on your property, and bites someone, you could get in trouble for that, and God forbid, that the Home Owner's Insurance finds out. We had a dog that appeared out of no where, and stayed on our porch for days. Attempts to find the Owner's proved fruitless, as they were never found dispite all of the advertizing we did, or the trips to the Vets & Animal Shelter. We decided to get it a Rabies Shot to cover our butts in the event it bit someone. Then..we fell in LOVE with her, and kept her until she was 20 years-old. That's an estimate. The Vet said she was 9, or 10 years, and we had her for an additional 10 years. I hope your Parent's fall in love with the dog they are helping. Good luck to you, and thanks for having a kind heart in this cruel world.
