The National Shooting Sports Foundation awarded a $25,000 grant to DNR’s Wildlife and Heritage Service to help create a new Maryland Hunting and Shooting Sports Outreach Program to provide ‘next step’ assistance for novice hunters and shooters of all ages to feel comfortable engaging in these activities.

The program will provide a safe, fun opportunity for people to learn about shooting sports, hunting and the important role sportsmen play in the conservation and stewardship of Maryland’s wildlife. DNR hunting and wildlife experts, in partnership with public shooting ranges and other appropriate venues, will host a series of hands-on mini workshops to give participants the knowledge and confidence to pursue these interests.

DNR is in the initial planning stages and expects to start offering these workshops to the public this summer. The Department is currently seeking partnerships to help reach this goal. Maryland shooting venues and sportsmen’s groups looking to participate, and those seeking more information, are asked to please contact Patricia Handy at patricia.handy [at] maryland.gov or 410-260-8537.
