Four Day school Weeks?

I also read that article. Interesting. When I was a kid, and the times were tough, the residents cut the sports budget to save $. I think there are better ways to cut back, perhaps non-essential programs than to keep kids home during the school week.

I also think kindergarteners should only go half day or 3 full days a week. Kids need to be home with parents more at 5/6 - let them grow slowly. It frustrates me that they have made kindergarten full day to accomodate parents who work and don't want to pay child care costs. Thats awful

Kindergarten was not changed to full day to accommodate parents and child care costs.

I'd be fine with a four day week as long as, on their day off, the pediatrician/dentist/orthodontist was working.

Even know i like the sports in school but if means keeping the kids in school 5 days instead of 4 i say cut them out. It is not a must have. Math, science, history and english now that is a must have.

You know, I would love to have my kids home more. But aren't they going to school 14 hours a day in other countries? If half of our kids are on free or reduced lunch, doesn't that mean that we should teach them more, not less?

I thought the lotto money was supposed to go to schools? We should have plenty.

I dont agree with you. I don't think thats why they made it full time. I like that it is full time. I think it helps them adapt to the whole school routine better.

4-day School weeks have been discussed in this area, according to a teacher I know. I think they were afraid of the public outcry, though...CWS isn't an option for all parents.

I vote for year-round schools. I want to be able to take vacations during "off season" times at reasonable prices.

I want year round school also but not for vacation purposes..lol! During the summer they forget a lot they learned all year. Everything come with a prices.

Neither is attending open house in the middle of the day, but schools still schedule it this way.
That's one day and doesn't affect child care arrangements and if parents miss it, it's not that big a deal. 9-1/2 months of extra child care costs or other juggling, or maybe locking children in storage units so you can go to work, could become a problem.
