I am not so sure. Are the police supposed to bang on the door, announce POLICE, and wait until after they have flushed all the evidence down the toilet and the occupant opens the door to let them in?

Because they already have the warrent means they are going to search the place anyway, what does giving them less time do? That should only matter if they do have something to hide.

It's the way it has been done up until now. I have no idea why they would have to announce they wanted to come in. I guess because it's America not Nazi Germany?

I have to say I'm not sure on this issue. While I do tend to have facist tendencies and like the idea of the new ruling, I can see how this could become abused.

Also, there's the Police safety issue. If they have a warrant to search let's say, 2nd A house and just barge in, I could see him shooting them before realizing that they are police and not some wacko burgular.

A whole lot of Cocain can get flushed away while someone keeps saying ...."Wait a minute, I'll be right there".

Armed with a lawfully obtained warrant in hand, a simple loud knock and shout of "It's the police, we have a warrant" should suffice. Which is what the police did in this case. What more is needed?
